Filtering a Spectrum Using FFTs

The unfiltered spectrum is in yellow, and its Fourier transform is in white. The ramp filter is applied to the FT, cutting off the low frequencies and suppressing the high frequencies (spectral wavelengths illustrated by the turquoise sine waves). Transforming back gives the red spectrum -- which has the low and high frequencies removed. (The spectral region is in the blue, with the Calcium H & K lines on the left).
