Ferroresonant Transformers Part3

Jerry Walker - 2020-03-10

In this video I show some of the waveforms in a Ferroresonant Transformer.

I wonder what the output voltage of the secondary winding looks like? Again very interesting but if possible I wouldn't mind if you go into more detail about these. And maybe an idea, but it would also be very interesting if you could make some video's on how to design a transformer from scratch, how to calculate, design and make a transformer. And last question, that current probe from Hantek, are these any good? I see they are quite cheap (around 47 euro).

The output voltage waveform is actually the key to the point of these transformers and I will be covering this in the next video. Nice to see that someone is paying attention :) . I needed to establish the principle of partial core saturation first and this is done (hopefully) so the next video will cover the relationship between primary current and resonant current and then the effect of this on the output waveform. I don't want to give too much away but I left a clue in an earlier video as to the regulation mechanism. If you are interested then look at the secondary voltage I showed and you may be able to figure it out. Hopefully everything will fall into place in the next video.

@Jerry Walker Looking forward to the next video.

Is that hard on the capacitor to take those high current spikes? Not sure how many amps it was but it seems running the capacitor under high current spikes like that for its whole life might shorten the life?

jontscott caps are rated for up to certain current

‌Please help me for my dialysis machine, its came with 120v60hz input, 24v 15amp output and ferroresonant winding with 30uf capacitor from usa,...... But my country supply is 50hz.....So How can i calculated for modify for same input output on 50hz supply....Or haw can i calculat a new transformer for 50hz on same input output...i have knowledge about general transformer winding calculation.. Please help....
