Why is EVERYONE more SICK?

Lola Germs - 2024-07-05

*Why does everyone keep getting sick? Spring flu, summer flu, concert flu, colds, endless coughing, mysterious bugs, allergies - why do our immune systems suck now?? What's with all the new health issues like diabetes, high cholesterol and fatigue? Why are more athletes having heart attacks? Why do so many have brain fog, memory problems and can't think as well as before? Is our gut microbiome health worse? Are we all just more tired and ill than before for no reason?*

Well, spoilerโ€“ it's not "lockdowns" or "immunity debt" or "thejab" or not exercising or not enough essential oils or vitamins or natural remedies or not thinking enough positive, high-vibration, wellness thoughts. It's something you may have never even heard of thanks to public health and governments not doing their jobs, but something you've probably already had a lot of encounters with, something you know ~deep down~ is not as over as the mainstream media or your profit-minded employer says it is, something that will not go away just because we wish it really hard..

This video essay offers a useful primer to this syndrome that is already affecting tens (likely hundreds) of millions of people across the world. Please share this information with your community and advocate for authorities to start taking our health seriously, because we all deserve so much better.. Subscribing, liking the video and commenting also helps out in satisfying the Youtube gods and getting this content to reach more people.

admittedly, this is really triggering for me to watch so i'm going to have to watch it in bits, but i made it 10 minutes in and i feel so, so validated. 10 minutes is chock full of great information, too, I'm eager to watch the rest of the video. i'm so glad the algorithm blessed me with your channel!!

I have long covid and i also came very closely to losing a family member to COVID-19 in 2020 (he wasn't expected to make it through treatment, but lived somehow, thankfully) I want to thank you so, so much for speaking on this. i am sending this video to everyone i know. it validates my experiences, and many people who are living day to day life with LC, and people who are much more disabled because of this virus. When i speak up about it in the work place, some people take it very seriously, which I'm glad, but there are usually a couple more people who tell me i am being too alarmist. i often feel like there is only a handful of us in my community who actually takes this pandemic seriously. it's exhausting and maddening.

I can't describe perfectly how i feel; i already have a lot of issues as an autistic adult in my late 20s between finding my life direction, battling burn out, and depression. But I can confidently say i have never felt like the same person since i was infected last year. it has changed me, made me significantly more tired, and perhaps its also the political climate, but i am so much more bitter personality-wise. it feels weird to keep living my life normally, going to work and potentially getting re-infected. and everyone pretends nothing is wrong!!

some days are better than others, and the days that aren't great, i feel fatigued for no reason, and a crushing exhaustion that I can't quite place the reason of. once my seasonal allergies kicked in i felt noticeably more miserable than i ever have when i had allergies.

The US government doesn't care about us, at least, that is the unspoken message they are sending. this isn't news; we have been on our own with this pandemic outside of medical intervention since 2020. I might just make a QR code link for this video, print it out, and staple them all over my local lampposts. thank you, again <3

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-07

Thank you so so much for sharing your experience ๐Ÿซ‚ I am deeply sorry to hear how you've been struggling, me and most people who still care about covid deeply relate to so much of what you've been feeling. The QR code idea is so amazing!! thank you for watching and sharing. Really hope we will raise enough awareness about this topic to create some meaningful change and help those who are suffering. โคโ€๐Ÿฉน

@matronofmercia5891 - 2024-07-15

Hi, I've recently had long covid after getting it for the second time late Feb this year. In hindsight, I now realize I already had a milder form of LC from after my first infection . I now feel better than I have done in years. Went onto anti-histamines, an H1 and H2 blocker, NAC, quercetin complex, nattokinase, serrapeptase, plus went hard on B vitamins. Also took probiotics, which I've now replaced with kefir (broader spectrum than yoghurt) and live culture sauerkraut. I hope this helps if you try these things. Have you heard of the nicotine patch cure? This didn't get me well, it was all the supplements, but I experimented with them after I was already well and have them on hand if/when I need to use them again . Get the lowest dose patch (7 mg) and put sellotape over half the patch (don't cut the patch). After 3 days you can try upping the dose, although I went straight up to 7 mg after 3 days, and that was too much for me, so I now know I'll only tolerate a half patch. Try it for a week, have a week's break, and repeat if necessary. Be well!

It's so refreshing to finally have someone talking seriously about covid and providing accessible, new info on it in 2024. Here in Australia, people seem literally a little offended if you wear a mask in public, I've had family yell at me for it, moralising it as "trying to put up an antisocial wall" (...for a yogic breathing seminar I was pressured into attending. Yeah, OF COURSE I'M WEARING A MASK? Strangers are heavily breathing on me??)

I seriously appreciate that you face the heavy topics intertwining with this. This year has been one of serious systemic disappointment, and it never gets better if we try to shove the news back in the box.

AND THAT CONCLUSION ๐Ÿ’™
I was starting to feel crazy and self sabotaging for constantly trying so hard to be mindful, sustainable, avoid consumption harming others and speak up about heavy things for years, and you put it so succinctly, that partying while the world ends is not it. You've got a subscriber, and a reinvigorated person pushing for change.

@LolaGermsย  (oh it was straight up likely pseudo-science lol, I just didn't have the emotional capacity to risk family dramas, it was very meaningful to that family member. NLP and Human Design. I was a lil scared it may have antivaxxer overlap, the mask was NOT coming off and I did a RAT test once I got home)

I find hope in credible education like this, understanding medical risks and the systemic sources of them makes it all feel more worthwhile, AND directs me to something I can physically do to worry less about spreading the effects of them to others. There's a lot of comfort we can find in sound science and community efforts instead of alternative therapies and weird tricks doctors don't teach. Knowledge IS comfort for me ๐Ÿ’™

Another reason you might not know people with LC is that they might not have told you their medical info. I developed asthma and new allergies after covid and have a weakened immune system but it doesn't really come up in conversation much and people are always surprised when I say it's LC

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-07

@ArtSharky - 2024-07-07

@aloeivyyy - 2024-07-07

@@ArtSharky yes, new allergies are a very common symptom of lc!! i'm so sorry about your pets :(

@donaldballjr - 2024-07-09

Our culture is so fucked about health issues, it makes one feel very vulnerable and often ashamed to acknowledge any sort of chronic, serious health condition. It can be a real hurdle simply to admit it to oneself, to say nothing then of the oft titanic challenge of seeking diagnoses from a fragmented health care system. If you present with problems that don't fit objective criteria for one of their coded diagnoses, the answer is too often "it's anxiety" or the like, rather than "it might be something we don't have good tests for yet", and you're left to navigate uncertainly from specialist to specialist, repeating yourself over and over, waiting weeks, months between appointments.

Oh, and maybe you have disability insurance, sure. Maybe. As long as you never try to actually make a claim.

the dismantling of testing is definitely a problem, i'd contribute a lot of it to the pervasive attitude that covid is "no big deal". i'm in school for a healthcare career that most frequently works in ICUs. my class is less than 2 months from graduation and we are in contact with a vulnerable patient population very frequently. we have been given proper education on disease transmission and prevention and should know how to properly proceed at this point.

when i had a fever, i went to the doctor and tested positive for COVID and thus stayed home. several of my classmates reported symptoms but did not get tested and proceed to the hospital as normal.
even hospital staff don't respect infection control measures because "it's just covid". many disregard the part they play in spreading it to others.

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-06

Absolutely! It's unconscionable that hospitals are not implementing proper infection control protocols, such as universal masking (with respirators of course), air cleaning systems and testing. I came here thinking this was going to be some conspiracy theory that doesn't even mention COVID. So glad you're talking about long COVID.

Well, I'm happy it was a positive plot twist haha. No conspiracies here, just proper science and factual info ๐Ÿ˜Ž thank you for watching!!

I sincerely hope all the people who were ableist and got long covid are more aware now of how shitty it is to be dismissed by others (told youโ€™re faking it for attention) when it comes to your disability/illness.

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-07

I know what you mean..Unfortunately, internalised ableism is not uncommon, which is why we need to listen to disability justice advocates and amplify good messaging on this issue as more and more people become newly disabled by this horrible virus. Hopefully, we can build a better world that isn't so riddled with ableism in the future. Thank you so much for watching! ๐Ÿ’š

@kagitsune - 2024-07-10

Yeah, unfortunately they're all probably ignoring their symptoms or berating themselves for not being able to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps". I used to be like this until I learned more about chronic illness. :/

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-10

@kagitsune Yep.. I agree :( that's definitely one of the important issues on this topic that society will have to grapple with. It's not talked about enough how ableism informs our culture by assigning morality to productivity, a very toxic and harmful mentality that ends up affecting even abled people. It's also ableism that drove a lot of the thinking behind "oh let the weak just die from covid bc the strong ones will survive and that's all that matters" (pushed heavily by governments as well, with messaging such as "it's encouraging that mostly those with previous conditions are dying") that ended up screwing over the whole society bc it turns out it's dangerous for everyone, not just the "unfit". Sorry got a bit carried away with this comment haha, thanks for watching btw!!

@xymzk - 2024-07-10

@@LolaGermsyeah, unfortunately bias is prevalent including amongst disability activists (beyond just this topic). Some of the worst of it Iโ€™ve seen really.

Doctors have spent the past century only worrying about contact exposure to germs instead of giving a crap about airborne pathogens. If anything comes out of this particular pandemic, hopefully it's a more informed framework for disease prevention (airborne and contact/surface exposure)!!!!

@RNNNPTH - 2024-07-07

Thanks for this. It's a great resource for CC people who are struggling to communicate why they remain cautious to minimizers around them, but I really hope this falls on the eyes and ears of non CC people. I suspect a lot of them may just ignore it or find other flimsy excuses to remain in comfortable denial and ignorance, but hopefully it opens a few eyes. I shared this on r/breadtube, a non CC space for sharing leftist youtube content, and so far the reception is fairly positive (at least in terms of not attracting trolls). CC content is particularly lacking on Youtube. I think you and "Data Report" are the only ones I've come across. Thanks for helping fill this void!

This deserves millions of views! Thank you for such an informative and clearly communicated video.

I just got Covid-19 for the first time after taking pretty extreme measures to avoid it all these years. I was already chronically ill and disabled. Feeling very worried for my future and everyone elseโ€™s. And Iโ€™m SO F*CKING ANGRY that it came to this. Our leaders failed us, and we failed each other. Itโ€™s so depressing. When will humans learn? That said, as bleak as things are, I refuse to succumb to nihilism. Iโ€™ll go out fighting. Solidarity.

Can anyone point me towards information on countries that got their covid-19 response right, or at least significantly better than the US and Canada?

Thanks again for the amazing video!

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-07

thank you so much for the kind words!! and yes, screw nihilism, we're better off fighting together.

as far as countries that had better responses- New Zealand, Australia, and Taiwan all relatively longer-lasting great pandemic responses that they were eventuallly dismantled due to international pressure from the pro-disease spread crowd.

the intial responses in Europe were generally a hell of lot better than North America, but kind of lost steam eventually. i was actually living in Germany when the pandemic started and had a totally different experience than my friends in North America, which def influenced the path i've taken in the last few years.

@kagitsune - 2024-07-10

โ€‹@@LolaGermsI'll have to go back and read some comparative summaries of how the different countries responded!

2 years of Long COVID before my body would allow me to do much of anything, even talking without heart rate spikes, intense pain on 1 side, chest zaps, BP dropping, aphasia, and weird stuff like perception of time got distorted. One time I woke up with what seemed like a microphone amplifying microsounds like slight movement on the pillow. Felt like waking up in a sci-fi movie. Huge cognitively ve improvement on a microclot dissolver, but still crashes. After 2 years, crashes stopped, but lots of other symptoms remain. I feel lucky I could think again, go to the store without shortness of breath, cook again. The pain still comes about once a day and sometimes lasts days. I didnt even know I had EBV till my dr said "your ebv is reactivated!" It's been a looooong 2 years and lots of $ in supplements. Twitter or Xer has a big LC network of researchers, drs, and loads of us with LC at various levels of suffering and recovery.

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-07

oof. i am so sorry to hear this. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน i am glad you were able to get microclot treatment that's brought some relief. so many people have absolutely no idea what you and others have been going through.

@ShannoninOregon - 2024-07-10

โ€‹@@LolaGerms I am so lucky that I was paying attention in Twitter and adding long Covid accounts to them stumble on some patient surveys. That was basically a pharmacist who was also ill trying to gather the information of what we were all trying. Then she'd do a deep dive on the research to see what she could unearth. That's where I learned about the microclots studies with nattokinase (please don't try without discussing with Dr if you are at risk of DVT, if on blood thinners already etc). But looking at that study even helped me figure out why some saw no help (they weren't at therapeutic dose from the study). I stopped it for a couple days trying to get ready for some labs and all my symptoms started piling back on till I remembered DUH, get back on that NattoK. Then Dr said I didn't have to stop it for the labs. When I started it in 2023, my Dr as well as many even now, didn't know yet how well it worked but was definitely taking notes.

@ElizabethWarne390 - 2024-07-06

thank you for making this video. hoping my mom will watch it and get a better understanding of why i havenโ€™t relaxed my covid precautions.

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-06

That's exactly why we made it, to make those conversations easier and make this info accessible to people who don't know much about LC. Hope your mom will understand that you're doing the right thing!! Thank you for watching ๐Ÿ’š

@anonymousperson6462 - 2024-10-01

The irony is that being outside daily (think parks and in nature) can lower your chance of becoming ill, along with many other benefits. But I'd imagine that you wouldn't want to do that, what with one of the precautions being to stay home.

@kagitsune - 2024-07-05

Thanks for that encouraging note: nothing will get better if we don't try. I needed that reminder. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-05

Awh, I'm so happy you connected with that, I think we all need this reminder from time to time. Thank you for watching ๐Ÿ’š

@nola4364 - 2024-07-19

Another reason you may not have met someone with LC: Those with the ME/CFS type are staying home more because of their symptoms and are less likely to be in your school or workplace. This has been an issue with disability visibility for a very long timeโ€”non-disabled people think disability is far rarer than it is because they donโ€™t see disabled people out and about, either because those disabled people are bedbound, because public spaces are inaccessible, and/or because family members keep them hidden to avoid stigma

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-19

Absolutely!! This is a major factor and is also one reason why people think "no one is masking anymore", since people who are protecting themselves from covid/LC are less likely to be inside restaurants or very crowded unventilated spaces for example. Thank you so much for these valuable points ๐Ÿ’—

@thatone2586 - 2024-07-08

I am so happy this video popped up on my feed, the world needs more people that dig deep into the scientific research instead of being spoon fed by cable news.

I don't care for the "you don't have a degree" argument, your presentation was very informative, delivered tons of sources, you engaged the audience (personally I had no idea about the extent or impacts of LC). The people who want to critize you would do it even if you had a degree, they always find something.

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-08

i am so happy it popped up in your feed as well!

yeah the "you don't have a degree in this" argument is genuinely such a joke. i first got into reading and understanding academic medical research in order to advocate for myself as a patient with multiple rare conditions, and genuinely if i hadn't done my own research and pushed back against what many doctors had told me, i would have never been diagnosed with the things i actually have and would probably be in immense pain or maybe even dead today (not an exagerration unfortunately).

some of the friendlier doctors i've seen were extremely impressed by my understanding of medicine and have asked if i was a medical student or suggested i go to med school. my actual uni training is related to taking a humanistic perspective on natural science topics. i am actually pretty qualified to do this work, a lot of people just don't recognize any qualification beyond a few specific degrees ๐Ÿคท

@@LolaGerms my case is particularly hard to diagnose properly and not just due to a lack of healthcare. i received covid about 6 months after the death of my fiance, so it was easy to just attribute everything to that. the covid i got was powerful, still before the vaccines, i swear the brain fog never fully passed, but the fatigue has only gotten worse over time. its destructive now. again, could be the crippling depression, i dont really know. covid could very well be a contributing factor though. not sure if theres anything i could do about it anyway.

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-07

@@sheepwshotguns42 I'm so sorry to hear that you've been struggling :( Given what we currently know, I'd say avoiding reinfection by using respirators and air cleaning systems until we get (hopefully soon) treatments for this condition is the best way to go. You can also connect with others who are going through the same thing to exchange knowledge, having a community that shares your experience can be really helpful. Finally I think this might be what Iโ€™m experiencing! I have been dealing with an unknown fatigue for almost a year now after falling ill from what I think was COVID a couple years ago. I seemed to have a โ€œfastโ€ recovery at first. However, as time went on I realized I was unable to do most of the things I used to enjoy. I have had frequent boughts of not being able to speak or move, which at the longest have lasted around 5 hours. It was really scary at first being conscious, in pain, and unable to anything about it until I eventually got used to constant muscle pain and being tired most of the time, compared to before when I was active and sporty most of the day and only needed a reasonable amount of sleep.

@LolaGerms - 2024-07-07
