Nice video, I'm following the same procedure on a smaller scale, and had similar troubles! Ethoxide is annoying as hell to work with.
Can you make inositol hexanitrate? I'm wondering, since I can't find much about the substance, besides its use to treat hypertension similar to nitroglycerin. I've never actually synthesized nitroglycerin, ETN, PETN, nitrocellulose etc., but it seems those kinds of nitration syntheses are relatively simple, so I think synthesis of inositol hexanitrate should be similar, and thus be quite simple as well. Or maybe I'm wrong.
Great to see another video. I appreciate that you take these seriously enough to do them "right". Question--what level of Patreon support gets you to invest in a tripod?
Lol, is it shaking that much?
@ReactiveChem Heh, not really, and maybe it's just me. My preferred style is filmed with a tripod, edited, then adding a voice-over narration, but to each his own. Still, yours is one of the better performed amateur chemistry channels. Thanks for the making the effort.
Can you share the literature you're following?
Excited to see what you do with it
It’s in description under references
Meanwhile I am so lazy for org chem that I bought 50ml of it ;p
Anyways good to see you again!
i just bubble ketene through acetone to get acetylacetone its fast clean and quite easy as long as you have the required safety equipment. So either a good fume hood or outside with a gas mask away from any human or animal. Military full face gas mask with military combination filter works well as it covers against low boiling point substances as well as almost anything you will encounter in chemistry including nuclear particles etc. Do not do this without having a fume hood or a gas mask with the RIGHT filter. Acetylacetone is a simple and highly useful chemical in organic synthesis and can be made easily if one has the right lab and safety equipment but this synthesis can be lethal if performed incorrectly with incorrect safety equipment.
Ketene is a little to dangerous for me
Not too surprising about the difficulty dissolving sodium ethoxide. It's a sodium salt in an organic solvent. Understandably frustrating though. Great video. Keep up the good work
Yes, very frustrating, especially with it being exposed to the extreme humidity
the "Making DDNP from a 1969 Army Manual" got me confuse with ordanense labs anyways cool vids be safe
Can you make smokeless powder?
I want to make acetylacetone... But that looked like a lot of work, lol.
It is, but it’s a fun classic org synth
I thought you died
Glad you are back uploading <3
Lol, just super busy is all
Nice to see you again, bro!
I can see car starter thing you got the ether from in the background xD
Isnt making it from ethanol cheaper ?
Not for this brand because 12 cans of that cost me 35 dollars and has almost 2 liters of ether when fully distilled
Nope. Making it costs more and is more work compared to just distilling the starter fluid. If you're careful and stop while you're ahead, you can get quite pure ether from that method as well.
Great video!
I got some commercial sodium methoxide. Think i can just make a methanol solution and reflux it at that temperature, with methyl acetate and acetone ?
Good to see you back!
Hello mr sir thanks
Of course you have a lab coat.
heard that you were quitting youtube from someone on discord is this true and why if it is?
NEW VIDEO!
Why>>?

Hell yeah! Nice! You would upload this after I just invested in buying a few liters of acetylacetone. That's my luck. But you know how my luck goes. Hahahaha! Great video! I'm extremely glad to see you still doing chem and posting videos. You're one of the only YouTuber chemists that I truly enjoy watching their videos and use their videos as a guide to do certain things. Never stop doing what you do. You're a huge help to a lot of us out there.

Thanks, it’s good to hear that people enjoy to watch what I do, makes me want to keep making videos 😉
