Is it profitable to recycle styrofoam into benzoic acid?. How can we get industrial grade benzoic acid by styrofoam?
Both the pyrolysis and the oxidation can be made very efficient, but I don't believe that it would be able to be as efficient as the other ways we have for producing it.
Great Video!
Just wondering but how much did the styrene stink up the place? I've only ever worked with it once and I absolutely hated it
the smell of burning plastic was stronger than everything else
Okay thanks, I think I'll just buy some sodium benzoate then and make benzoic acid from that
@Edward Tries To Science just buy benzoic acid it self. It is very cheap.
what was the purpose of adding the hydrochloric acid rather than just water? was it to destroy all manganese dioxide suspension?
because i did the oxidation in basic conditions, the benzoic acid turned into potassium benzoate. I turned it into benzoic acid by adding the hydrochloric acid

the answer is always yes
2:28 apparently not enough.
No no no, violence is not the answer... it's the solution
"After white polystyrene was beaten a little more than black people were beaten by the American police" AHAHAGAHAHAHAHA
Please don't cancel me
@MADscienceMAX is it that bad i laughed so hard blood spilled out of my nose? HAHAHAHAHA
based
You should put this into a white paper and apply for the nasa mars competition you need to apply by the 15th march this year
That's an interesting idea
Did you test its melting point as a guide to purity?
Not really
More purification needs to be done in my opinion

All creation requires some destruction.
But I'm torn. The brutal destruction of so much innocent polystyrene was hard to watch.
I hope it was all worthwhile.
