Neighbor: "Derek. Why is your pool red?"
Derek: "Uh, science?"

Davidacus - 2019-05-30

"Uuuhhhh...meow?"

Concinnity - 2019-05-31

Well, Physics Girl was here, and ....

Benedikt G. - 2019-05-29

Your first video about vortex rings was basically the reason to get into fluid dynamics - now I'm majoring in it :D thanks to you!!

No Brand YT User - 2019-05-30

r/thathapp

Mariano Ntrougka - 2019-05-30

@No Brand YT User its definitely possible. I watched the how to turn a sphere inside out series and that's why I took topology in uni

Erik - 2019-06-02

I flinch every time I just hear the names Navier-Stokes. Mad props to you.

CompIacency - 2019-06-04

Can you major just in fluid dynamics? Like not as a part of engineering or physics?

MetaBOMBon - 2019-10-14

Say you were to put a thin torus (with diameter of the opening and made of a light solid material) right at the opening of the vortex generator, do you think it would get taken up by the vortex, and propelled forward ?

Francois Roewer-Despres - 2019-06-04

If there's one fact I'm retaining from this video

It's that Derek has a pool.

WhereWhatHuh - 2019-05-30

"Honey, why is the pool purple?"
"Oh... Dianna came by this afternoon..."

Hassan Selim - 2019-06-08

"Was she wearing a Barney costume?!"

Men Del - 2019-12-04

"...yes?"

melior - 2019-05-30

"I have an idea! I had an idea." *points thumb at book entitled "We Have No Idea"*

Ben Crossley - 2019-05-29

Today I had my final analytical dynamics exam and walked away thinking, yay no more physics!

Physics girl uploads video: Oooh yay, physics!

Venture B. - 2019-05-29

Congrats!

gabriel giovani - 2019-05-30

And that I think is quite problematic
I love what I study, I love to study
But either the book is written in such a poor way that nailing my fingers seems better or the teacher is so, I don't have a word for it, boring is not quite right, whatever for the class also not quite right, I think the best way to describe it is antiwonder
You need to know that, I will ask that later and you need to answer, they make you feel like that's why you study...

CheesecakeLasagna - 2020-09-14

gabriel giovani I get what you mean, I studied graphic design in uni and even though I'm still very much in love with the prospect of having a career related to it, my school kind of killed my thirsty creativity. That's why I try to keep another hobbies that's not related to art.

RedDragon - 2019-05-29

2:40 I love how Derek is trying to study the ring and is talking about an air bubble, meanwhile Dianna is just have fun with it!

andymcl92 - 2019-05-30

@Rique Heide Yeah, I noticed that too :)

Chris Sloan - 2019-05-30

@andymcl92 I don't think there should be any shockwaves. Nothing is moving fast enough. (I don't know of any cases where shockwaves form without a supersonic/subsonic transition. (Though I'm not a fluid dynamicist, so...).)

So, yeah, further reason to believe it was from the food coloring or something else.

andymcl92 - 2019-05-31

@Chris Sloan Exactly :)

Matt TheChosen - 2019-06-04

@Chris Sloan the whole effect is being created by a shockwave, but yeah l would find it surprising that it was powerful enough to create the air bubbles.

Chris Sloan - 2019-06-04

@Matt TheChosen There are clearly boundaries and pressure differences and such, but as I understand what a shock wave is, there wouldn't be one in a subsonic vortex. If you believe that I'm wrong, I'd love to see a reference so I could read more.

Like Bot - 2019-05-30

Two vortex rings joined together under water... they were sub merged.

TheCimbrianBull - 2019-06-02

ba dum tss! 🥁 😂 🤣 😅

WhereWhatHuh - 2019-06-08

That is HORRIBLE. I'm totally stealing it.

Jonathan Matthews - 2019-05-30

I love Physics Girl and I love Veritasium!

Today is a good day.

idude.eclair - 2019-05-29

Pool party with Dianna and Derek? Where do I sign up?

Two Vortex Rings Colliding in SLOW MOTION - Smarter Every Day 195

Boris Manojlovic - 2019-05-30

exactly, that is what first came to my mind, and then when I saw their execution (in beginning exceptionally) I was disappointed. Because they put in work, they don't deserve thumbs down, but no thumbs up.

skarrambo 1 - 2019-06-01

@Boris Manojlovic I don't see the need for a sort of backhanded compliment. It's two videos, whose conclusions and aims are very different - even if they are both about dyed vortices in water

Vida Digital - 2019-05-30

What's more awesome than a Supergirl/Flash crossover? A Physics Girl/Veritasium collab! Great work!

Vida Digital - 2019-05-30

@pvic They could explore what could/would happen in the "real world" with their superpower; like how/if Flash could create vortices by moving his arms, or how superspeed would affect their mass, momentum, temperature, etc. - in the style of "Because Science"

pvic - 2019-05-30

@Vida Digital i support this cause
maybe kyle should come in as thor lol

Vida Digital - 2019-05-30

@pvic Yeah, now that you mention it, they might get into trouble because of intellectual property rights... Also DC and Marvel are separate :-)

Ameha K - 2019-05-31

Vida Digital Thor being a mythological figure is actually public domain, the others, we're out of luck.

Vida Digital - 2019-05-31

@Ameha K Yeah, but if he's cosplaying Marvel's Thor... or they're cosplaying DC characters... Youtube is finicky about that. You might see 10k videos with stolen music and footage up for years, and you upload one thing that remotely refers to their IP and gets caught by the algorithm and you get a strike... within minutes...

curiousistan - 2019-05-29

Paused my Netflix show to watch @physicsgirl’s video worth watching.

Tawé Lo - 2019-05-29

It's more Physics Moon Girl. Due to the red dye. Iykwim ! 🎑😅

Brock Diggins - 2019-05-29

God I love this channel! Keep up the great work!

Alex SSB - 2019-05-29

Now you should do a vortex in a Klein bottle

Paulo Bardes - 2019-05-30

How about a Klein Bottle shaped vortex?

Alex SSB - 2019-05-30

@Paulo Bardes That would be even better

Squirrel ASMR - 2019-05-29

Omg your hair looks so adorable today like a magical elf/fairy princess.

alveolate hermeneutist - 2019-05-30

COSTUME CHANGE

Zachary McCaslin - 2019-05-29

The outcome of the physics joke was....shocking.
Keep it up Dianna!

Akhil Chennu - 2019-05-30

You forgot to say HAPPY PHYSICSING😂🤣

CaraPlay - 2019-05-30

This is somewhat random, but love the jacket you are wearing in the video (in particular the colour!), and wanted to ask from where it is?

Vanessa Lawrence - 2019-06-05

I had the same question. After searching, I think it's a PUMA iridescent bomber jacket that is currently sold out on their website.

Squirrel ASMR - 2019-05-29

That's amazing how slow it travels, but keeps going steadily!

David Mm - 2019-05-29

As a host/presentator she does a great job. Always enthusiastic and we'll spoken. It's people like this that makes someone want to learn.

Czeckie - 2019-05-29

wait, there were physics jokes during the credits all along?

Raphaël Pyrat - 2019-05-29

I hope not...

Th-Aron - 2019-05-29

From India. Woke up from sleep when I got a notification. Didn't get back to sleep when I came to know that it's from Physics Girl xD
Perfect topic at 1:45 AM

New Message - 2019-05-30

"Did... did you just fart in the pool?"
"Nooooo.. I'm making vortex rings."

* darts eyes *

RedDragon - 2019-05-29

That joke at the end was terrible! But one of those jokes that's so bad it ends up funny again somehow

Ameha K - 2019-05-31

Looks like a sci fi weapon fx

The dogs' reaction is so cute

Kylie H - 2019-05-31

The question is, was that atom released on a Covalent Bond? Either way, someone should really being keeping an ion it. Okay okay, I'll see myself out.

James Funk - 2019-06-04

Two atoms were walking together. One said "Good heavens! I've lost an electron!" The second said "What? Are you sure?" The first said "I'm positive!"

Apollo_57 - 2019-05-30

Heyyy!! I love ur channel!! Can u make this into a vortex series??? That would be soooo cool!! Thx!

Matas - 2019-05-29

you should have expended the part with a scientist about entangled rings etc. felt like there was so much more to explore, than just mentioning it.

Nolan Westrich - 2019-05-29

Extended?

Sacation - 2019-05-30

I agree, felt a bit to flat. Could've spend a bit more time on it

Rafaelo Pap - 2019-05-30

:O I got the joke! I think I gained iq!!! Thank you phisics girl :)))

Dyslexic Mitochondria - 2019-05-29

I came to know about this channel through 'reactions'. I have to say I really like your videos.

Felix Gonzalez - 2019-05-29

No 👎 has to do all the time I love 💕 is rjekwowlwpwmehrke

Meera - 2019-05-31

Shane Gallant - 2019-05-29

I didn't realize until the end how electrifying this video was! ;-) XD

Eau Rouge - 2019-05-30

You used to be Physics Girl.
And now you look like Vortex Ninja.
2019

Cracked Emerald - 2019-05-30

"Derek, why is the pool red?"

Ellen Brown - 2019-06-08

Thank you for doing these lovely interesting things and dressing modestly also. Men are so easily distracted. I've read about you and know that you will do great things, mashallah. From: A Muslim Girl.

Gary Starnes - 2019-05-29

The vortices look like jellyfish when they initially leave the cannon. O= Cool video Dianna! :)

M Goudsmits 金马桥 - 2019-06-02

like making circles with cigarette smoke we did years ago

Nazareth Perez - 2020-05-10

I love that the subtitles even put the “noooooiiiice”

Pedro Gruvhagen - 2019-05-29

Im in love with her new really long hair.
Also nice physics

Analytical Aakaash - 2019-05-30

Me too...

toeasylife - 2019-05-30

So Atom was positively charged ?
Must have been an inside job.

TheCimbrianBull - 2019-06-02

Maybe Atom was charged with battery!

Tini Giorgadze - 2019-05-29

you literally posted now and i'm here <3 i love you so much

Dr. Becky - 2019-05-29

I remember when I was learning to scuba and the IMMENSE PRIDE I felt at being able to make a vortex ring. I became a true physicist that day 🤓 awesome vid Dianna 👍

Physics Girl - 2019-05-29

You people deserve an award. I’ve never managed!

Eleanor Freebern - 2020-11-11

I love how this is just "Hey, I'm Dianna, and you're watching physics girl. I want to make a vortex ring in the pool."

Guitar vs. Physics - 2019-05-30

1:35 made laugh, good one physics girl.😂

Squirrel ASMR - 2019-05-29

This reminds me one time I peed out tons of blood and freaked the f out, but it turns out the pool just had a chemical to make pee red....

Gijs de laat - 2019-05-29

smarter every day has 2 vortex rings hitting each other you should check it out if you havent

croyce - 2019-05-30

I came here to post this.

RumbleLab - 2019-05-30

I love how you have been doing stuff that we can try ourselves. Thank you Dianna!

Jason cheng - 2019-05-30

6:39 that is like when I blew into my french horn without pressing buttons, and i can never play D,F or A.
Edit: blow

SovietLlamaMC - 2019-05-30
