Pyroclastic Flow followed by series of Tornados, Sinabung Volcano

Photovolcanica - 2014-02-02

The pyroclastic flow deposits red-hot material on the slope of the volcano. After a few minutes, air heated by the deposit establishes a convective regime and due to the speed of the rising air a series of small tornados (also spelled tornadoes) are formed.
During daylight it is difficult to imaging how hot the deposit is. To see a pyroclastic flow deposit glowing at night from same location as present video one can view:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDJ4hmw9i6I

Note: Video is played at 2x normal speed as flow is actually not very fast and video would otherwise be too long for most viewers.

Toruption!

Sage Sheahan - 2020-01-15

Considering those whirlwinds are not birthed from a supercell or a thunderstorm at all, but from a pyroclastic eruption from a volcano....

All those defining words are fair game as a description? What the hell do we call THAT! Amazing!!!

Yoshi Yoshi - 2020-05-03

Pyronado!

Bonang Setoaji - 2015-02-09

Tornado after eruption :(

God bless you Sinabung

Majestic Skies - 2017-07-13

Everyone saying that theyre dust devils makes me laugh 😝 Im a storm chaser and I can guarantee they arent. Landspout tornadoes is what I'd call them as they're connected with the cloud base. Tornadoes can sometimes form in unusual ways and in very rare circumstances they can form from the updraft of pyrocumulous or pyrocumulonimbus clouds (which this eruption triggered.) This is still a barely understood phenomenon though! Incredible video.

Sage Sheahan - 2020-01-15

Landspout, maybe.. but those are still formed convection from a thunderstorm in some way, if im not mistaken. These were spawned from a freaking pyroclastic flow. Id name these something entirely different.. just from their uniqueness. Only a volcano can make this type of whirlwind, basically. Just like how a large wildfire can make firestorms. Just my humble opinion. ☺️

jmr1068204 - 2020-04-03

I think I'd name them...Pyronados?

Canyon Parker - 2020-04-24

They aren't wrong it's not a tornado it is closer to dustdevils as they are formed the exact same way. Tornados form differently then volcanic tornados it literally just a name for it. Sorry to burst ur bubble but if u were a storm chaser u would know that. Of you don't believe me send me your sites and I'll review the information.

Look at a video of the "tornadoes" spawned off the bonfires at Burning Man.
A uniform airflow around a strong thermal convection column can generate
a double vortex structure which spins off a successive series of "devils", also connected to the "parent cloud"; probably not full-blown tornadoes, even if, like the Carr Fire vortex, the strength is equivalent.

Matt Sorensen - 2014-12-08

I only watched this to hear the deep breathing in the background

Jankers - 2014-02-11

Ścifun!

MrUranium235 - 2014-02-23

This has everything except sharks :)

Martin Papp - 2019-09-14

There's some other eruption going on judging by the sounds in the background. If ya know what I mean.

Agueybana - 2014-02-11

That's one of the strangest but coolest things that I've ever seen. SCIENCE

Raison D'etre - 2014-02-15

its nature not science

Agueybana - 2014-02-15

@Raison D'etre That is true.

Systlin - 2019-12-27

This whole video would make an excellent series of metal album covers.

This is amazing! !

阿佘 Peter Sheh - 2014-05-12

This is soooo awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Oleg B - 2014-02-12

I was hoping to see the tornado of lava or something like that within the actual volcano. That would be scary as hell.

Joseph Hebert - 2019-01-25

Pretty damn amazing!

Chris Atkinson - 2015-10-07

all the vids I've watched haven't seen that in eruptions wow but Def not tornadoes.

Bokek Mann - 2014-02-09

Luar biasa, video yang spektakuler. Beginilah resiko jadi orang Indonesia, hidup di area ring of fire.

SupernalOne - 2014-12-09

that is truly spooky, the triple funnels - south of the equator too, apparently since they're going clockwise

mu116688 - 2021-01-26

Wow. Aside from the disaster part, the footage shows both the extreme heat of the pyroclastic flows and vorticity conservation. Cool ngl.

Danu Wahyudin - 2014-02-14

Please upload Kelud Volcano eruption video

Electric universe !

Steve Griffin - 2014-05-03

Plus the upshift in the video speed. So it was slower rotation..

Lumi - 2015-06-03

I might be weird, but it actually looks really beautiful. I like seeing the best and worst of nature allthough I feel sad for all those that are currently being evacuated, I hope they'll remain safe and still have homes to come back to.

gundam4509116 - 2014-03-15

Uber! great vid ...please can you tell us what the (Odd) noise in the back ground was? chipmunk or dog or you and somebody else voice ,but in fast mode it driving mad to know. OH well great video i do love your channel.

At least it's cleaning up after itself.

david marshall - 2014-10-13

whatever the hell it is lol freaking cool  thatwas my uncle saying that me on the other hand im awestruck by mother nature been following tornados for 30 years

lmk001 - 2014-02-05

Um, holy shit. That is insane.

kombort - 2014-02-07

Sounds like it's very fast forwarded. But the video seem to be real speed? I guess it's supposed to be moving a lot slower than that and just sped up for viewing purposes?

Maggie Satterfield - 2014-02-14

The pyroclastic flow segment is at normal speed but not the "tornado" part.

james ohara - 2018-04-11

Spooky, the Volcano gods are walking down the mountain.

Борис Никитин - 2017-10-06

my hometown was destroyed Mt. Sinabung.

Ray Gorman - 2014-02-07

They would be more like "Ash-Devils". but what is interesting is that they are spinning clockwise. Is this Volcano below the equator?

CAG2 - 2014-10-28

How did you film this and get away to safety?
