The Slow Mo Guys - 2022-03-14
Gav puts Dan in a Dan-sized bubble to film the crazy popping pattern of a bubble at over 2000 times slower than you can see with your eyeballs. I still think it would be interesting to see welding at insanely slow speeds, always wondered what it looks like
It’s just looks like metal melting
grinding too
@Vaul yeah, that sounds awesome. you're saying that as if that doesn't sound awesome
Given how bright it is, you wouldn't even need to worry so much about lighting at reallllly high framerates. It's self-lighting!
Jumping on the bandwagon here, I really want to see some car stuff in slomo. A burnout, a backfire, maybe even see a diesel rolling coal.
That manual split second focus pull was actually really impressive in itself...
Yes it was. These guys are pure genius and put a ton of effort into their video content. Well Done, Gentlemen!!
This is honestly an effect that needs to be picked up by someone doing like multiverse wall breaks or something, it seriously looks like Dan is breaking a hole in the universe at points.
I had that same idea! It would look great in a film
I started imaging the big bang! A 2d representation of it.
The smooth uniform 0 dimensional 'thing' of nothing / something somehow ruptures and instead turns into gazillions of tiny particles now flowing around in three dimensions!
I'm glad I'm not the only one whose mind jumps immediately to special effects when I see a lot of their videos.
tbh that does explain how people create special effects, some arbitrary physics event with some tweaking and there you go
hes breaking the mirror dimension
Hey, not sure how you guys would be able to do this, but I was talking with my brother about the time he lost a bit of his thumb to a table-saw. Apparently newer setups have a mechanism that when a finger encounters the blade, the blade is stopped so fast your finger isn't damaged. They usually demonstrate it with a hotdog, but it would interesting to see just how fast the reaction is.
Maybe do one shot where the protection is turned off (with a hotdog of course) just to catch the carnage.
Unless it is sponsored by "Saw Stop", I think it would be a one take shot. From what I've heard it is a pain to put to saw back to working together again, and anything stopping a blade that fast is likely to wreck something.
You're thinking of SawStop.
Nope. Not that interested
As a youtuber from way back i remember when you two went from the back yard to a high budget set with full crew...to back in the backyard, and frankly it feels so good to see yall creating together. Appreciate it
Same here and I would always cringe when they would almost break the windows or pour various chemicals into the lawn.
Love having Dan back! I missed him
Aim better
It is the slow mo guyS as in more then one so yeah it felt a little incomplete without him it is good to have him back
Same
The floor is lava I have a water bucket
Missed ya so much Dan!! Very glad to have the duo back!!!!
7:52 those tiny ripples that appear on the highlight to the left are so cool. Incredible how much detail is hiding in there
Yes! I was looking for someone else to have noticed it.
As a professional cinematographer props to you for nailing that insane focus pull. I never could have pulled that off lol.
I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to see the two of them making videos together again.
Okay but that focus pull is masterful, Gavin is truly a genius and I soooo happy to have him and Dan back together
I'm sure it's already been said countless times, but I'm so glad you two are back together. Slo Mo Guys is whole again.
Sometimes you guys put out a video that really illustrates how much you've mastered your extremely weird craft. This is definitely one of those times. I could watch that focus pull for ages.
I'm willing to bet there was at least double the attempts they showed on footage to get that correct lol.
Siatkarz why are you yelling
@5peciesunkn0wn Oh for sure, if not far more than that. Dedication is a big part of it.
@Jake Brown it's a spam bot
It's true. Gav is really good with the camerawork, and Dan is really good at doing stupidly specific and unusual tasks exactly in the focus of a camera. It's the perfect team
Grew up watching these guys back when they made videos in their backyard so glad they are still around
One of the things I love about the Slow Mo Guys is, how much different ideas they come up with. And then execute them so nicely.
The commentary is on point, showing us mind blowing things we might not notice on our own
Duuude! Your focus pull was amazing!
And this video, once again, brought us to the peak of human aesthetics 😙
between this video, and the speed of light one, we're seeing things that humans have never seen in ALL of history. It's incredible.
I'm so happy that Dan has been able to make his way to these shores and join the videos again. The banter back and forth really makes it.
He didnt sail though. He used the land route.
he dug his way from UK to USA, remember? :P
These guys are so chill to watch. Literally Lofi video
I really enjoyed how you always try to experiment with every possible shot out of one single idea
I'm calling it - you guys will one day film the point at which reality falls apart. Just amazing.
The shot with the focus following the bubble burst was a piece of art. Great effort guys!👍
These videos remind me of the old days in the back yard and the giant balloons, they are the best! So glad Dan is back!
I am so enjoying having Dan back. The "dark" years were good, but the interaction between you two is just great!
Where did Dan go, and how long was he gone?
@ra ph he was stuck in the UK due to covid
@Katy Ciula I thought he was in the military and rarely makes videos with Gav when he takes a vacation
@Badrillex Where did you hear that?
Thank you guys for all you do. You've given me quite some otherworldly feeling moments over the years, thank you...
Amazing. I love delving into the world of slow mo. Y’all always make the mundane look insanely cool 😎
Glad to see you guys back. This was truly memorizing
seriously guys. seeing you back together... it's almost like all the bad in the world has faded away...almost.
well done you two.
Every time I watch one of your videos I think to myself you can't impress me anymore you have reached the Pinnacle of mind blowing content. But yet again you prove to me and the world there is so much more beautiful stunning videos out there to be made. Thank you Slo mo guys you truly are amazing.
As a kid who grew up obsessed with blowing bubbles, I would've gone crazy at the idea of this experiment
Finally, some of your backstory lore! Must have been like your villain origin story.
Bubbles must have been very happy
Never mind kid-me. Adult-me was grinning like a maniac when it got to the 50k fps shots.
Caesar?
Did you see their original bubble popping video?
Never seen a bubble pop that slow. Amazing footage you two! 👏🏻
Brilliant! Thank you Gav and Dan. You guys are amazing. Thank you again for what you do,.
Watching this at 2160p 50fps.... Possibly the best looking YouTube video I've seen. Wow. You guys make some absurdly high quality content
It’s awesome that you guys are filming together again. I’ve been an avid fan since I found your channel.
This video gave me almost the same feelings as the first Slow Mo Guys video I saw over 10 years ago. For a few seconds the world around me stopped existing . Incredible.
The focus pull footage was absolutely stunning
That focus pull was beautiful! I found it so fascinating how the bubble wrinkles in on itself like it's a piece of cling film at the end.
I love being able to see exactly where the sides are going to meet on the other side of the initial pop. at 9:28 you can see a vertical line form and as it continues it gets more defined and then eventually each side meets up at that point. Super neat.
I often wonder what scientific discoveries you unearth with these clips. Fascinating stuff, as ever.
Lads, this is one of the most beautiful videos you guys have put out. Loved every second of it
It really hits me how calm and relaxed you comment when you look at these absolute breathtakingly beautiful and fascinating pictures and films 😂! Great job!
" There's just so much more going on than I thought. "
This applies to every one of your videos.
Gav, Dan - you never cease to amaze me with new insights about the world we live in. Thank you.
I was surprised they didn't mention the way the final ribbon contracts into a vortex. 4:40 Like matter collapsing to form a galaxy, it never falls perfectly to the center so you get a spiral. Lots of interesting hydrodynamic-instability going on in there. (Like the crown/inverted-star shape of the pop 7:45, similar to the crown you see from a drop landing in water.)
It's so dense. Every single image has so many things going on.
The footage at 5:40 is absolutely INSANE
That focus pull was absolutely masterful
This is literally the first video of theirs that has showed up in my subscription page in a while. I literally thought they hadn't made videos in years
Gav your lens pulling skills are actually brilliant lol 👐
Incredibly cool! I've always loved bubbles, but never would have thought to do this. Some amazing shots in here.
I love how you guys are so good with your sound effects. I know they don't match anything in actual slow motion, but I love it anyways, it gives the videos so much more detail.
They're like the epitome of calmness
@x They should sell a Slo Mo Music CD in their merch store
6:16 was really satisfying
if you haven't seen it already, Smarter every day had a good video on the guy that he uses to compose the slow motion sounds for his videos, it is a very creative process.
Looks like a big hole to me
Just brilliant. So satisfying!! Best imagery you’ve done yet.
Ofentse Mwase Films - 2022-03-14
Well done on the focus pull🙌🏾💯🔥
ben Jovi - 2022-03-14
do you mean the dan-less shots where they start focused on the back to get the initial pop then pull to the front to catch the end result? yeah. that's why these two make the big bucks
ben Jovi - 2022-03-14
wrote my last comment before watching the whole thing, you could have been talking about any of the shots, amazing
Surfdudeboy - 2022-03-14
What the what?!? How was that manual sub-second focus pull so flawless?
Akuno G - 2022-03-15
@Surfdudeboy my guess is many attempts, many failures before getting lucky.
