High Energy Dye Laser Reflector Fabrication

Tech Ingredients - 2017-05-14

A detailed explanation about the design and fabrication of lamp pumped, high energy laser camber reflectors.

@styropyro - 2017-05-15

That bending jig is genius for making reflectors, I will have to give that a try! All of my homemade reflectors have turned out bumpy and non-uniform so far.

It is impressive that you can keep your thoughts collected enough to record a 20 minute video with just a few clips. Clearly you know your stuff and don't need to keep cutting to review your notes. That being said, you'd probably get more views on your videos if you chopped them/cut scenes more often. Combining your broad encompassing knowledge with a video format somewhat similar to other big science channels like BackyardScientist or Applied Science would make you a YouTube powerhouse.

I'll be looking forward to future videos on this channel. I've already learned a bunch from you so far.

@TechIngredients - 2017-05-15

Thanks a lot for the complement, that means a lot from a YouTube powerhouse! Your advise about the video production and editing is spot on as well. We are working on improving the audio quality, framing, limiting scene length and moving the topic content more effectively. There is a lot to learn, but its HUGE fun. See you around.

This is what people don’t get about engineering; that it’s never one thing... it’s always fifteen things at the same time. And usually, those things only ever intersect in the way they do in this one particular system. It’s truly a beautifully creative art.

I was having a “Tech Ingredients withdrawal”
So have been going over the older uploads in the hope their are some I have missed.

@Doctorbasss - 2017-05-14

thanks again for sharing some of your talent and also going deeper into details. We apprecaite!.

The ceramic tube for sand-blasting must have been expensive? This was very useful.
I have a commercial glossy porcelain(looks like) cavity insert that works equal to your development, most high end flash cavities are white and not silvered. Thanks again.

@TechIngredients - 2017-05-15

The tube cost $27 from McMaster-Carr

@davegeorge7094 - 2017-05-14

Planters, love your new intro!

@SilentGloves - 2017-05-17

lol @ "Fun Monitors" I'm borrowing that.

@ernstboyd8745 - 2018-04-27

I dont understand why you said "two bounce" when using an elipse ? its one bounce.

@TechIngredients - 2018-04-27

That is correct, but only for less than half of the light emitted from the full 360 degrees around the lamp. This depends on the degree of ellipticity of the chamber. Furthermore, some of the light emitted by the lamp has to make more than two reflective bounces to get to the dye cell. The result is close to the effect of "two bounces".

Do you know how to cut si reflectors? I hear it's possible but iam having a hard time I need to cut a 30mm diamiter to 3mm lengths 😱other wise custom order after I get 6 sent Aaaaaaaa😲

is the barium sulfate come in powder shape or it is a paint liquid and it has to be mixed with water and isopropyl alcohol ???
kindly advice

thanks

@TechIngredients - 2018-08-07

The supplier provides a mixture of a small amount of additional minerals that support the Barium as it dries. Water/isopropyl act as ideal solvents. They carry well but evaporate quickly once you are done painting.

@samf8885 - 2019-05-13

Can you provide me some online shope where yo buy the barium sulfate paint that you use ?

"..an elliptical cylinder requires two bounces..."
Nope! Not correct. An ellipse requires only one bounce off the wall to go from one focus to the other. One way to define an ellipse is that exact quality, i.e. the normal of the line of the ellipse bisects the lines drawn to each of the two foci.
Just one bounce.
