hello you all if you want please send in translations :D in this video I am recycling polystyrene into its monomer styrene to do this i am using the thermolysis process therefore the polystyrene is heated and dry destilled to reform the styrene the purification by fractional destillation will follow in a other video soon tell me if you like the lab sound or if i should keep using music mfg hazelChem
Well at least i can see this video. GREAT video. I was to scared to use my glass on the depolymerization. I am running out of RBF big time. AGAIN glad you are on bitchte also.
Its a initiator, not a catalyst, because it get used up and it it determines the numbers of molecules.
Make phenylacetaldehyde from styrene! Try to make it while avoiding it's oxidation to phenylacetic acid. You can make phenethylamine and N-ethylphenethylamine.
AMAZING VIDEO!!!! Absolutely brilliant and can't wait to see more. Have fun in Amsterdam
thx man :D
@Hazel Chem all the love dude
Also, can you do this under vacuum to stop side reactions?
yes this would work just fine :D

You can add some tertiary butyl catechol as a inhibitor, it might slow dimerization/polymerization of condensate. It can be washed afterwards by caustic solution.
👍
GREAT VIDEO.............I feel so bad about your pyrolysis reactor. That is screwed up. I did this experiment with a tin can still and so it was not as air tight like a glass distillation apparatus. And the condenser i made was not working the greatest. Man my whole house and a 70 foot radius around the house smelled like styrene. That smell REALLY carries far. BIG TIME
jup the stench of styrene is quite strong even in small concentrations .... and it gives you a hell of a headache
@Hazel Chem .........Yeah what i distilled was a NICE CLEAN milky white liquid of styrene. I GOT SICK FOR THREE DAYS.. By the time i got back to the styrene is was a DARK DIRTY BROWN liquid. But yeah it got me sick as heck. I breathed in a lot that day
How you make the polystyrene turn to hard solid . Can you brief the procedure? I really want to know because this experiment is interesting
you just dissolve the PS in your solvent of choice and let it evaporate. Ideally you recover the solvent. cheap and easy to get solvents would be acetone or isoprop

What's app number
Wonderful babe!
thx :D wasn´t the best way to do it vacuum would have been way better .... but well it is like it is
@Hazel Chem Yes. A schlenk line is much better for this
Interesting that you use a heating mantle. UC235 uses a propane flame, and seems to end up with less char. Also, I hate to point this out, but it's "aromatics" not "aromates". Good video though!
thnaks for the feedback :D
the thing with the porpane flame is that it is hotter thus producing more sideproducts
mfg hazelChem
Ahh okay, that does make sense. What was your yield, in the end? Once you've distilled it. If I remember correctly, UC235 got about a 70% yield. Interesting to compare methods.
well the problem is that i did not way the PS .... so i can´t calculate ..... sry for that :/
mfg hazelChem
@Hazel Chem Ahh okay. Oh well, no matter XD It's always possible for someone else to repeat etc.
Isn't it better to wash with brine? Nice video btw
hmmm it could lead to polymerisation so .... idk

Music? How about the ChemPlayer LP?
In memory of the fallen!
where could i get the sound ?
Got them saved on my hard drive, uploading them to my channel now!
Here's Volume 1 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd6KwDtpHpc
And here's Volume 2 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug9G2U4kKwg
You're good to go! ^^
Music.

And i think lab sound is better!
