Sulphuric acid... chlorine gas... yeahhhh, I think I'll just fill my mom's casserole dish with hydrogen peroxide and call it a day.
To be fair, hydrogen peroxide can be pretty dangerous if mishandled too.
Yeah though, this is substantially more dangerous.
@seigeengine something tells me he was referring to the topical variety of H202
Yes, the standard 3% variety which is safe enough to gargle.
Well, 2 drops of sulphuric acid is a very small amount, and it's optional. Heck, you can spill 98% sulphuric acid on your hand and little will happen if you wash it off quickly. Chlorine gas, on the other hand...
i rather use H²0²
''It's cheaper but it can blind you or kill you'' ....Well that's not good...
I'd call that a minor side effect :)
@Robert scuba My advice is to stop when you need glasses..
(75 Alchemy skill required to perform this task)
What is the quickest way to grind to this level? Spam Retr0briting piss yellow Snes cases?
This process is soooooo much less cumbersome than Retr0Bright. /facepalm
Just infuse a liquid with a deadly gas and fully submerge your part....
i don't know why people usually say Retr0Bright is a difficult or cumbersome process, it is really easy and also relatively cheap
LOL Right? Is this a fucken Joke!? Just buy $200 worth of science lab shit and risk being blind/dead.
@TheProudPortugese1
He failed in finding a less cumbersome method but this guy is a trained chemist. He probably enjoyed tinkering with things till he found a method that worked.
Issue is that retr0bright will damage the plastic in long term, as the whitening of retr0bright is beach of the bleaching
@Shinji Ikari That is only the language of the troglodyte
simple enough.. just charge for the service of cleaning ppls yellow plastic
I just drank the methanol and skipped steps 2, 3 and 4. I don't care about my yellowing plastic anymore... Or any of the other colors for that matter.
The Dollar Guy Hilarious!
The Dollar Guy lol!
Your sir are awesome :)
Methanol blinds you! Weird.
the chlorine gas killed this guy
+myst32YT I need some stuff whitened
+myst32YT Please start making videos again, i loved them so much. May i ask why you stopped making videos?
Bladez Andrew maybe he has a life beyond youtube.... something you will never know about.
I'm p sure he's nilered
opsimathics he is baremetal hw
Well, happy you are alive! It freaks me out when channels like this stop uploading.
Wtf the last upload is 5 years ago
Tried this on my teeth, YUCK!
this is great, but its dangerous :/
How is this easier than retrolight? :[
Hans Brandt It's faster and the use is more convenient than stroking a component with a paste (plus toothbrush) and letting it sit on the sun for hours. Provided you don't attempt to make chlorine in an indoor setting that is....
18 years……… 18 YEARS !!! and still not back………I KNOW YOU ARE READING THIS !!!
I think you made a subtraction mistake... 12020 - 12012 = 8, not 18.
@GRBTutorials Hysterical.
Good video, does it stay bright after a year as ive heard it just goes brown again very quickly?
what happened to you, it's been a few years since you made a video
Hope it wasn't the methanol. :( I genuinely mean that.
I probably wont be making new videos.
I have to say putting up videos about chemistry has been an interesting adventure (to say the least). When the Casey Anthony trial was going on I received a huge amount of threats for my chloroform video with people accusing me of killing her daughter,,, or teaching her how to kill her daughter. This was all sort of a strange joke at first given I had by far the most complex and convoluted way of making Trichloromethane ever devised. But I digress. Anyway, a simple risk vs reward calculation will show that spending large sums of money, and probably getting your name on a list, to buy chemicals and glassware for videos. Along with huge amounts of time needed to tape and edit said videos. All while dealing with the constant fear that your door will be kicked down and you will be used to make a name for the local District Attorney who will no doubt paint you as a drug manufacture/bomb making terrorist (what the hell else could you have been doing.. right?). Oh, and then there is also the the simple risk of killing one self (something we all know can happen unfortunately). But the main reason I quit making them is that I have a son now, those of you with kids I am sure can understand. Now what happens to me can have consequences for him.
In short, I know that what we do is not wrong.... but in a society that increasingly only sees what we do as making bombs or making drugs, something I am accused of every day, it is just not worth the risk.
On the other side I really appreciate everyone's support! Though I never did much commenting on the forum I did a lot of lurking.... and still do. Scienemadness is a great cornucopia of knowledge made up of some very talented people... much more talented than I.
Myst
This is what he wrote in scinecemadness
Tobinator This is really sad. We know that DAs are just as spineless as defense lawyers when it comes to cases featured in mainstream media (where ignorant talk heads posing as "experts" say whatever BS message the media outlet wants to portray), but having children makes such things even riskier. Yeah, there's a cruel world out there and it's hard to spot dangerous psychopaths until it's too late (and uploading such videos just gives one the bad kind of exposure). It's a shame, because some of the videos have featured some REALLY useful stuff.
@CoolKoon I couldn't have said it better
@Tobinator thank you for that brother.
Cool, I've got several beige computers. Love to restore vintage 💕
just reminding you posted this, just in case ;) i'd love to see.
This was very interesting and informative. Thanks!
Thank you :).
I miss your videos :( You and nurdrage are my favourite channels.
Good day sir. Could I use this solution in a headlight of a car? Thank you
I need to try this on my phone case
thank you so much for sharing =)
Nice optimization of the cumbersome retrobright method!
Great idea! You need to find a way to stabilize the Cl2 in the MeOh and you got yourself a consumer product brother.
Could you apply this Solution with a Sponge then Thoroughly Water Rinse for removal of Pubic Hair ??
Wanna cook?
WOW!
This was really useful!!! thanks a lot from Mexico man!
Great Video! An easy made solution with great results. I can see why you were advised not to market this product. Chlorine in the home is not the best of chemical to have around. Thanks for the Info.....
Hi Myst! I always wondering what was the active ingredients in the 2 parts hair bleach. The cream is H2O2 from what i remember. But what's in the powder? Thanks in advance.
Thanks so much for the information on this video. I have some parts too large to soak in a container. Is there anyway I can use this solution to either spray or brush on to remove the yellowing? Can I use a thickener with the methanol? Very keen to hear your comments.

super nintendo playstation fusion
Good to know - thanks. :)
I need this for my bathtub! I've been searching online for months and can find nothing that will reverse a yellowed acrylic tub. :(
try oxalic acid diluted with water , it may help to clean the yellowish part
Your yellow tube is called clear water rust. Iron in the water is simply rusting ont he surface. Scrubbing to remove any and all soap and bio film first then treating with EDTA....You just chelate the iron away. If the glazing needs to be redone that is a different issue. If the glazing is too porous than it will come back super fast.
Chlorine Gas is so dangerous! It was was one of it not the first chemical weapon used in war! I am not sure I would fool around with just to clean some aging plastic parts. Retro-Brite is super cheap and easy. You can shoot the parts in automotive clear coat with UV blockers to slow down future yellowing. You can get clear coat in different formula and designed for satin, matt or glossy finish. The trick would be picking solvents to thin the clear that will not harm the plastic that will also allow good control over spraying and drying time for the temp and humidity.
AWESOME !!!!! KEEP IT UP !!!!!!!!!
Can you suggest more information about removing yellow from paper? Thanks for the great video!
7:08 But you didn't have to cut me off!!!
Back in the 80s we used Fantastic brand spray cleaner to remove the yellow from office equipment such as IBM Selectric typewriters. Made them look like new.
I was hoping this video would give a scientific reason for the yellowing or at least the reason you used the ingredients in you solution.
when is your next vid coming out
Back in the 90s we had a PlayStation(1)infested by an army of roaches.I set it aside and unbeknownst to me,my mother got hold of it & thought that running it through hot soapy water was coherent
i like it well done sir :-)
I was hoping this was something you can just wipe on and it removes it ...wow
Dangerous chemicals, fire and poisonous gases to fix a 5 dollar toy.
Are you still around? I'm going to do my G1 Jetfire soon, how does yours look 7 years later?
So, it's been over four years now, how is the re-yellowing with this method in comparison to Retr0bright?
Things re-yellow because they undergo the same process that yellowed them in the first place. I can't give a proper answer, but I can't imagine them being much different.
@seigeengine I'm gonna go with, this one the yellow will return much slower, because hydrochloric acid and chlorine gas baths are much more painful for the plastic, and hydrogen peroxide is something you can put in your hair, so the plastic will think twice before yellowing with this method
Elixer lmao 😂
Hi, I just found my G1 Jetfire and its yellowed 😑 did you end up developing this chemical?? Or where can I find something to restore Jetfire...Thanks...
Hey i still have that toy in my basement lol
Could I uses these to clean my royal stealth retro jordan 5s? (netting)
How did that back piece of that SNES break apart?
Barry Manilowa - 2018-03-03
When I saw the chlorine gas, I knew why his lawyers advised against turning it into a product.
