White Hot Stuff in Water

Thunderf00t - 2010-02-12

Just for fun!

-messing around in the lab a while back. Rare are the times when you can get something white hot (~1500 degrees C) and plunge it, largely without fear into water. Just so you know, I've never managed to crack silica through heat shock.

crikk23 - 2013-12-31

im use to working with metal in a forge and i dont know way but watching you hold that in your hands as it start to glow made me a little unnerved.

Igneosaur - 2010-02-12

Haha, I love the hand at the end!

YashinNashi - 2010-02-12

That's a pretty good slogan: "Don't stone, get stoned"

Forlo12345 - 2010-02-12

AHHH! This brings me back to general chemistry courses in college. Man, I had so much fun in lab!

Ridleysama - 2010-02-21

@MelissaLovesYou44 : PROVE IT!!!

Bear5177 - 2010-02-15

Wow. That glow is beautiful. Great video, with the coolest closing line ever! BB

Peaceful Clock-Maker - 2010-02-16

thunderf00t your my favorite :)

Dhesyca - 2010-02-12

Thanks for the vid; I love learning about science! I'm actually impressed with myself that I recognized what "blackbody radiation" means even though it's been 6 years since I graduated highschool and probably 7 since I took chemistry and astronomy. But then, my highschool science teacher was amazing, so remembering what he taught is much easier. Thanks again, Tf00t.

MuhammadIsABear - 2010-05-24

@Mattm1986 I'm glad OMS is catching on, I use it, too.

FuturePants - 2010-02-12

Cool! I love little nuggets of science like this. Thanks thunderfoot, I love that you have the tools to demonstrate this kind of interesting experiments.

CharBroiled04 - 2010-02-12

"we are all greater than the organic computer you make us out to be." Prove it or didn't happen.

The Reason Why Guy - 2010-02-12

@Dasmaster1 alright :) Just thought is was filler... guess I was wrong :P

Steven A - 2010-02-13

@DaltinWentsworth I did chemistry in college, and went on to medicine

BigDoodles - 2010-02-12

You can be snarky. I typed in all caps, an internet crime. Thank you. "It is true that the discussion may be pointless for some of the participants, but I hold out hope that it may, on occasion, hold some value to observers." - I think it just did. Well not directly, and I don't think in the way you meant, but we have learned as result of its existence.

MITHWORLD1 - 2010-02-12

Amazing,you´re doing a good work,thunderfoot,thanks!

Army_Ranger187 - 2010-02-14

gotta love science :)

goosed1 - 2010-02-12

Carl M - 2010-02-12

Nice argument 'I KNOW IM RIGHT' *anger* That's how it's done, you show them.

frenzaldude - 2010-02-14

lol i love the ending

these vid are sooo cool! thanks for sharing them! i wish i had the space (and supplies!) to play with this stuff! oh well.. have to wait it out till my chem class in college...

terminaldeity - 2010-02-12

Awesome. Love the science vids.

WallysWellies - 2010-02-16

Nice vid. Strangely interesting considering you just melted stuff! I like

Sunhawk7ajj - 2010-02-12

@rockerwere I knew there was a logical reason for it. Thanks :)

Love this stuff Tf00t!

The Crusader 1000 - 2010-02-15

Reminds me of science lessons back in my school days they were very fun. 1980's science can't beat it.

shlunko - 2010-02-12

Haha, science at it best eh? ftw ^^

TheRationalizer - 2010-02-12

Your trip to the moon was merely a trick! I reject your science, it is a lie, and may Allah judge between us on The Last Day. PS: This was sarcasm.

Łukasz Waloch - 2010-02-12

LOL the ending destroyed me xD

nugget147 - 2010-02-15
