Aerogel: the most confusing substance:
Sounds like a brick
Breaks like ceramic
Looks like jello
Weighs like a paper clip
And takes heat like a boss
@Corey Scott I don’t think it is really flexible, but it may be able to slightly bend.
@Jotunn actually there are many different forms. It can be made totally resistant to water, into a paste you can rub on things or flexible.
And making it pain in the....
Bosses would probably burn
@Bangerz Exactly
Aerogel: is 99% air
Lays: Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power
Great meme
Underrated
i mean...true
out of context, but i think its approved to be funny at least
Oop
dude.... this is why i love science. you can literally make the coolest things, some being outrageous such as 99% air
Lmao I'm constantly making 100% air by breathing
U
Science, bitch!
you can also bought some potato chips that shit 99% air
They already have that…. It’s called a chip bag
"Best part is the particles get stuck in your eyes and cause blindness", he says in the most cheery tone like a psychopath
he's a total phyco- look how much effort he put into making aerogel
man also probably knows how to make meth
@normal boi Meth is easy, you don't need to go to university to learn how to make it.
Also, most chemists (while taking safety extremely seriously) joke about the terrible things their chemicals can do.
@normal boi People still don’t know how to spell psycho, huh?
@Zezus 001 no i think it's just the dyslexia
@normal boi I think here is a serious conversation
If you are a person who has successfully created and shaped aerogel, does that make you an Aerosmith?
@Victor Snyder dude it's called little bomber
@Tifanny Gracia Runtu Is that a mother fucking snippy snappy flippy flappy mctackle frackle crackle cackle rackle fucking toodle doodle mcnoodle froodle JOJO REFERENCE????
This is the Pun Police, freeze!
Dream on
I can never escape JoJo
Holding a beautiful ice cube-like gel square he made from scratch
"The surface looks a bit rough..."
Yeah like bro..
40:29 "On a more personal note, projects like these kind of destroy my soul." Oof
7:00 "I promise, it will make sense in a few minutes."
You overestimate my power!
Rule 1 of Chemistry: If you get what they're saying you're a born natural
I feel so freaking smart watching these videos when in reality I don’t know wtf everything is
LMAO SAME
"I found a very scientific way of seeing if theyre dry"
Proceeds to destroy his table
Toto wolff approves of this method
Yes, that was the joke. Thank you, Captain Unnecessary Captioning
@Sugarcube 🦋 Riz ツ that's not a wooosh. Just because someone talks about something other than the joke does not mean they didn't get it. People like you ruin r/wooosh
@Josh Young Ok? Idc mate. Lol.
@アレクシ r/woooooosh
“It’s important for safety reasons not to heat the valves” he says while aggressively waving heat gun in circles around the entire device
Lays: Finally,a worthy opponent.Our battle will be legendary!
tai lung reference
@Rachhanon Sam and the fact that lays have no chips and all air
Can we just take a moment for him for spending thousands of dollars and alot alot of time and research just to make a video for us
6:04
thousands of dollars 😔
@Julian Legg 16:11 yes, thousands of dollars
He didn’t do it JUST for the video… you know he makes a ton of money off advertising and commercials and patreons who support him right? He wouldn’t do it if he wasn’t profiting from the channel lol
My favorite part was the most random, when using tongs to pull out the aerogel on the hex shape, you clicked the tongs a few time - just like a dad about to grill something. Proving it is impossible to use tongs at all, in any way, without clicking them.
FBI: He HAS to be making Meth this time.
NileRed: making bone-in air
FBI: breaks down door
This guy: yo what's the problem with making boned air
Bone-in air is the phrase that is keeping Jesus away.
@Nihil that wasn't meth that was a demi god
He made non boneless air
However, due to all the vaporised methanol, I spent 3/4 of this process high
I love how this came out one year ago and it juuust got on all of our recommendeds
WAIT SO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE
@humsun :p no there are more
this whole channel all of a sudden has been showing up on my algorithm and most videos are 4 years ago . huh wondering what happened that made so many of his videos enter algorithm
Just a thought, but the discoloration might be a chemical reaction from the metal you used for the tray?
Good thinking!
I don't know how this ended up in my feed, but this was fascinating to watch.
"I want mine to be crack free"
don't we all Red, don't we all...
He’s definitely on like seven different fbi watch lists with how much pure chemicals he buys
@Gideon Mele Gideon Blue
I mean if you say your anti-fascist you get put on fbi watchlist nowadays like we didn't fight a whole war over fascism.
he does buy some uranium online lol
@yokel ur mom
I love how he'll just make chemicals that are hard to get in his area
wow very cool
I lost it when he said, “carefully blasted it”
has the same energy as "firmly grasp it"
@Galladegamer And "I carefully squished it"
Man this was definitely a labor of love. I would have too easily become too impatient and muck everything up. Hats off to you man. Thank you for taking the time, money and mountainous amount of patience to show us this complicated process and this incredible material.
Wow, that second one was perfect, well done man.
His goals for aerogel are the same I have for my kids. Keeping it crack free.
@Chelsey Cunningham I feel more manlier than you
@lil pajis um ok?
Makes sense.
Got me
@lil pajis WTF LOL
"The best part is that it can lead to permanent blindness"
This guy is literally the definition of mad scientist
The way Nile says "though"
I've never seen such a very hard working and most dedicated chemist over the internet, let us all show our respect for his hard work😁✌👍👍🙏🙏
When you pulled it out I thought you were going to say, “Ooohh baaaabyy” and I was right there with you!
Me: “I’m not going to watch 45 minutes about aerogel” 45 minutes later “well, that was fascinating”
THIS WAS 45 MINUTES? i was really sitting here thinking this was ten minutes 🚶♀️ i need a job
@masacatior p
Same
Good thing u watched 43 and not 45
Same I stuck here for 45 minutes
When he talked about avoiding molds that would make aerogel easy break, I instantly went to thinking about making reusable molds out of wax, where you heat them up and melt them away, leaving warm gel, but I don't know if the gel has its heat capacity properties yet.
The methanol would boil out of them, cracking them really fast. The boiling point of methanol is really low
OMG 😱 I can’t imagine how scientists put lots lots of effort to do something “science” for people benefit .. this video and team deserves an award 👍👍
I did it I watched the whole thing, just to see some pretty aerogel
Wow! This is amazing. Thank you for putting so much effort into this awesome content!
"i used a dollar store cheese grater to shred one whole dollar store candle."
ah, yes. chemistry
KEMIST
Dollar Store Scientist
Bb&
Cehmistrey
hhuu ok?
I'm pretty sure theguy who actually made this was trying to kill someone
"I also found it was good to punch the table in general..."
That could go in a NileRed out-of-context video.
Man this video was a journey. And i loved every second of it. Thanks for all the hard work you've done to show us this. I wish I'd be as excited as you are with practical science or with studying in general. LOVE YA!
This is truly impressive dude. I thank you for showing us the complicated and difficult research process of creating a super cool and high-tech material!
Aerogel: I’m 99% air
Chip bags: pathetic
Crouton bags: What? You mean I have to put croutons in my bag and not just air? That's bullhuey.
e
@Luca crispity crunchities*
Lol
@Patrice Colas still air
“My favorite thing about it is that it can make you blind”
I’ve watched this video so many times and it never gets old
The patience, dedication and the work!! Perfection ❤️
I'm so proud of myself that I'm interested in science and that I'm an chemical engineering student, science is love
you know you've have reached peak chemistry when you grate some candle as a mold base to make aerogel
@XiXtee you'd be surprised how impromptu some of the equipment used in labs can be. At least in academic labs, commercial ones have the big $s and can often afford custom equipment for everything lol
I understand this part of science like poetry 💯 I Love that you wrote this out for me to read....
Fmoi @Blaqwolf_yay
@jaderaptor yeah i think he meant to say the zenith of the magnum opus of the peak of the metaphorical mountain that is Chemistry.
@Kit Victory Exactly.
@jaderaptor You know it's just a joke, pointing out the comical value in suddenly going for a common candle and cheese grater in all of this. Don't be silly. 💁🏼♀️
“One of the biggest factors of making crack free aerogel” Nile red 2019 (I think)
The boys: ayyy you ready to smoke some aerogel
You, sir, deserve an award for this one. Awesome! The shots with the camera against the chamber are super striking
I loved watching this when it first came out and I just realized throughout the whole channel you can tell whenever the experiments fail
Everytime Nile says that he never did something before, he comes up with a substance that is over 95% pure or 95% like the one out of a production line.
salamiflavoredlacroix - 2020-12-05
eventually he's going to snap and teach us how to make meth.
Sketti Boi - 2021-08-23
That day may come if SpaceX asks him to make enough aerogel for a rocket module and he actually agrees out of pride.
merciah - 2021-08-23
He's already taught us how to make chloroform. What more do you want. Hahaha
Klance klance Revolution - 2021-08-25
1.Nah thats patrons only stuff
2.Watch, he would make it out of fucking brick dust and a peice of fabric
merciah - 2021-08-25
@Klance klance Revolution to be honest, that would be safer then what it's made out of now.
Archaic Self - 2021-08-26
Nilered Breaks Bad!!
