Copper Nitro Salt of 5-Aminotetrazole

AllChemystery - 2017-01-05

Since this stuff and most of it's precursors are out of the reach of ordinary non-chemist citizens i thought i would show how this highly energetic compound is made and some testing of it... Enjoy!
We Will see how long this video lasts........

We Will see how long this video lasts........I'll follow how along publicly accessible. Good video. Dr.

Брюс Ли - 2018-05-13

Tell me the exact reaction grams

Philip Bender - 2017-01-05

Nice video, you are a very talented chemist. Is it possible to make azidoazide azide in your lab?

AllChemystery - 2017-01-10

Ha! no chance! i like my fingers attached to my hand thanks! however soon i will be doing an NaN3 video.

Elyjah Vasquez - 2017-01-22

Concentration of the reactants? Lol

AllChemystery - 2017-01-23

Elyjah Vasquez I didn't really want to add them but I have them written down and will get back to you on that.

Brett Bartleson - 2019-01-31

Dbx1 video?

David - 2018-06-29

Could you show us how to make 2,4,6-triazido-1,3,5-triazine? I haven't seen anything about this compound yet and it may be interresting.

This stuff moist /wet stored in airtight container is stable for years?

someone knows?? (wet storage)

Cabrondio VITRIOLVM - 2017-02-08

@I AM Diablo What is ESD ?

AllChemystery - 2017-02-08

Cabrondio VITRIOLVM electro static discharge. Basically static electricity sparks.

Cabrondio VITRIOLVM - 2017-02-08

@I AM Diablo It is reassuring to know directly from you that the Copper nitro salt of 5-aminotetrazole is SAFE and STABLE for years stored dry or wet-moist.
Some final recommendation about "how to store" CuNTZ for long time, Doc?

AllChemystery - 2017-02-08

Cabrondio VITRIOLVM Did you make some? my recommendation would be to transform it into NaNTZ - it is more stable and better things can be made from it. I can show this in a video in a few days- I just need to edit it. This copper salt is just a precursor to better compounds and although powerful it is not a good initiator. I have a sample 2 years old and it is fine. I can't say for 100% it will store for long times but 5-10 years is possible. Pure nitraminotetrazole can last for up to 58 years according to a study done by T klapoetke in2010.

Cabrondio VITRIOLVM - 2017-02-08

Did you make some?
YES! tell me how to send the photos to you, partner.

I can show this in a video in a few days- I just need to edit it.
OK. I wait impatiently how transform it into NaNTZ

DDNP PLEASE....

Alessandro Tozzi - 2018-04-26

I believe that it is also possible to obtain the copper salt of the 5-aminotetrazole perchlorate.
It is necessary to check if the following reaction is possible:

[Cu(NH3)]4SO4 + 2 HN4CNH3ClO4 => Cu(N4CNH3ClO4)2 + (NH4)2SO4 + 2 NH3

If this salt were to exist, it would be more powerful.

:-)

Three, questions, please:

what is the pH of acid CuNTZ from 5-aminotetrazole?

and

Why do you wash using NITRIC ACID WITHOUT NEUTRALIZING??? Ohhh

and

3:57 " ...is washed with nitric acid once."

In what concentration the HNO3 (we suppose) is diluted to wash?

AllChemystery - 2017-01-10

1. im not sure of the PH but it would be low- 2/3 or even lower. practically everything used in this preparation is acidic. the addition of nitric ensures everything has dissolved since 5-ATZ is poorly soluble in water and the solution stays acidic for the diazotization this salt is meant to be acidic so we wash it with nitric acid at a 70% concentration. 3ATZ + 3CuSO4*5H2O +6NaNO2 + 4HNO3 ->
Im not 100% certain on the shelf life and stability of the product but dry storage is not advised. for further info see here: http://sciencemadness.org/scipics/Energetic_Derivatives_Of_Tetrazole.pdf
I would strongly advise reading this if you were to do this reaction as it is quite dangerous and even miniature explosions can happen during CuNO2 addition which could even detonate whole wet mixture.

AllChemystery Thank you for another great video/synthesis. scary stuff. I didn't realize just how dangerous this synthesis is. The sodium doesn't suffer the same pitfalls?
