Fat is not just stored energy, it’s a complex organ that controls crucial hormones and communicates with your brain, immune system, and metabolism. It's one of the most powerful organs, but it can be one of the most dangerous ones, as well. When there’s too much of it, fat can trigger inflammation, disrupt hormonal balance, increase your risk for nearly every major disease, and significantly shorten your life.
What is fat really, and how does it function? When does it become dangerous and can the damage caused by excessive amounts of fat be reversed?

Finite Nature vs Infinite Nature:

Everything naturally occurring is Nature, which includes plants, microorganisms, humans (all lifeforms), atoms, energy, stars, planets, black holes, cancer, AIDS, space, Dreams, and Consciousness.

(Why would Nature be finite?)

Without Infinity, there is only infinite regress; E.g. String Theory: what caused the strings, where did the strings come from, what came before the strings; E.g. The Big Bang: what caused the initial singularity, what came before the initial singularity, etc. Considering "Nothingness" is an obvious fallacy, there must always be Something.

Prove Nothingness, while keeping in mind: Nothingness can only be "proven" in the absence of an observer. If described (observed) by an observer, Nothing becomes something (think hard about this). This would also connote a field of infinite Nothingness randomly formed a spec (our Universe) of somethingness - which is nonsensical.

Provisional science cannot claim authority over reality, at best it can only provide fuzzy hints. Science is a game of "let’s pretend," played with symbols and sensors. Its power lies in utility, not truth. To mistake physics/maths for reality is to worship the finger pointing at the moon.

Our cosmological sciences are akin to a microorganism residing within a human (on Earth), actively exploring the Andromeda galaxy. Our nearly insignificant signals bouncing off of fragments of Infinity - the margins for error are "astronomical".

"So far as the theories of mathematics are about reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality" - Albert Einstein

Why would Nature form brains/minds to exhibit consciousness other than to experience reality; considering experiencing reality is the objective of consciousness?

It connotes conscious intent, via consciousness (Nature).

Consciousness/Experiences:

Disneyland (Reality) - Patrons (Consciousness) = Nothingness = Fallacy.

Instead, we Patrons (Nature) are the architects of our own theater called Reality.

All life exists for the sake of experiences (regardless of good/bad).

A thought experiment:

On a plain sheet of paper, draw a single dot (.) in the very center.

The paper represents infinite space. Everything beyond the boundaries of the sheet also represents endless (empty) space.

The dot represents 'The Big Bang'.
Everything humanity is aware of - exists within the dot (our currently expanding universe).

If the observers of this singular dot, zoom far enough away - the dot will cease to exist. The dot will be extinguished through expansion/evaporation - wholly consumed by an infinite void (due to cosmic scales/distances). This would prohibit existence from 'being'. (Yet here we are).

Furthermore this would connote The Big Bang occurred at random, within an infinite void of nothingness - suggesting 'somethingness from nothingness' - which is a fallacy.

Without considering potential forces being exerted upon our reality/universe (from beyond the boundaries of our observations) - is an incomplete interpretation.

Clearly the remainder of the sheet of paper cannot be an infinite void.

The expansion of our universe is accelerating. If our cosmic expansion were occurring within a void, our reality would have concluded before it began (poof). (Yet here we are).

If we are a facet of Infinity - we are Infinity. Along with everything being intimated.

Instead imagine the sheet and everything beyond - riddled with infinite dots.

Every universe is a particle, every particle is a universe.

(Infinity is self-propagating).

Thus Infinity is a superdeterministic preexisting condition.

Infinity being absolute simultaneity.

Expresses infinite probabilities - Deterministically.

Every reality.

Every life.

Is an intended narrative.

(The largest cannot exist without the smallest)

Although our universe is finite (as evidenced by expansion).

Infinity exists at a fixed maximal size, without borders/boundaries: Infinity is forever in every sense, within which infinite universes/realities are housed - each a distinct experience.

(Infinity > Multi)

Infinity accounts for every variation, including variations in thoughts.

Reality is an infinite fractal consciousness; whereby all realities, every possibility, along with every imaginable and unimaginable thing, is a fragment of said consciousness - which we refer to as Nature.

We are Nature.

We are "God" (figurative); fragmented into infinite experiences.

An Infinity without borders or constraints; with infinite energy.

We are all the same entity; existing for the sake of experiences.

Time:

A seemingly endless cadence of day/night cycles, conducted over the course of the Human epoch. Untold billions of Homo Sapiens Sapiens; generation after generation – conditioned by Nature to accept finality. The circadian rhythm, an innate mechanism, a constant reminder; consciousness an ephemeral experience, fleeting with every moment, through every exhalation. Selene a blanket of night, engulfing all into her dreamy embrace – the analog of Stella, raining rays of warmth, nourishing existence into being; beckoning the vivacity of life to stir yet again.

Day into night, night into day – a rhythm to remind us that none of Natures constructs are created without an expiry. Whether measured by 6.62607004 × 10-34 m2 kg / s; or by a Supereon, we are cascading energies, propagating our collective experiences - vainly attempting to elicit a sense of ‘self’ in hopes of staving off oblivion. Not realizing that the only allowable paradox to exist, is existence; a lucid dream conducted by the everlasting artistry of Gaia.

Time.

Fat cells dying from being too fat is so ironic

@ercangorgulu07 - 2025-11-19

Deadlifter will die under a very heavy weight, diver will die on too much depth, skin cells die from sun rays even though they supposed to protect us from sun, humans can die drinking too much water (hyponatremia) even though we are 70% water, batteries will explode if you put too much electricity even though they are made to keep the electricity etc.
For most of the things there are upper limits, so I don't see any irony here.

So... yourself?

@Hakusan75 - 2025-11-30

I managed to go from 450 pounds down to 260 over a few years. Every single aspect of my life has become better. I can do more with my family, my work is easier, I feel (slightly) less exhausted, and I can go up several flights of stairs without sounding like I'm suffocating. Because I can do basic things like play with my kids, do chores, have intimate time with my wife, and work a normal job, my mental health has greatly improved. It's amazing what a positive effect major weight loss has on a person's life. It's also extremely difficult, so kudos to anyone who's lost weight! Even a couple pounds is great!!!

@superguy9834 - 2026-01-21

Do you have any advice for gaining weight? I'm having the opposite problem.

@Hakusan75 - 2026-01-22

@superguy9834 It really depends on why you're having the problem, what kind of mass you're trying to gain, and the foods your body can tolerate. You need high calorie foods to build fat. If you need water weight, for whatever reason, salty foods work for a day or two. If you want muscle, you need things with the nutrients used to build those muscles, things like amino acids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals.

@jimkirk3839 - 2025-11-22

Im overweight and have been experiencing all of these negative effects. This is the first time someone has explained to me whats actually happening in my body rather than just saying "fat bad". Im taking this as my sign to change, thank you.

Edit: thought I would update everyone who left encouraging comments for me. About a month in to calorie counting and i’ve lost 10 pounds! (Actually a good rate at first considering how obese I am, it will slow down pretty soon, based on estimations) I will edit again in a year and let y’all know how I’ve done. Good luck to everyone else doing the same 👍

Edit 2: somebody said to update more than just at a year, so 2 month update is I’m another 5 lbs down, 15 ponds total. Been walking and taking the bus more on top of cal counting and have cut out all drinks besides water and decaf! Had a few cheat days but have mostly stayed on it. The first week was the hardest! Keep going!

As a former obese guy I can tell a message to my big fellas.

I know it is hard. Going diet is hard, hitting the gym is hard, but it is possible. And if you really try it, you can see your effort bringing results every single month. Bit by bit, you will see your belly getting smaller, your face getting thinner, and when you realize you are doing, then things will get easier and easier.

Life is good guys, I hope you all find as much success as I did in this journey

@videosight1 - 2025-11-18

Eat beef and butter cut sugar

@Jackpkmn - 2025-11-18

Or you can end up like me, going for months not seeing any progress whatsoever and being in agony and exhausted the whole time. Then people are just like "You aren't trying hard enough" until you give up then everyone mad at you.

@luizhenriquepaes8991 - 2025-11-18

@Jackpkmn Have you went to a nutricionist? You can't outwork a bad diet, and we are horrible in creating diets for ourselves. There is also a possibility of you having an actual medical condition. Is rare, but it's possible

@luizhenriquepaes8991 - 2025-11-18

@videosight1For it's chicken, eggs and a lot of rice and bread... need to hit some carb metrics too

Now I am at maintenance diet, much easier to handle 😂😂

@MrBobo0808 - 2025-11-18

@Jackpkmn I'm sorry to say but if you have already been checked for any hormone imbalance and you came out clean and you been eating properly and going to the gym consistently and not half assing it, there should be no way you haven't progressed in either strength/weight loss.

No progress (assuming you are new and not someone that already worked out for months/years) while being consistent would mean you either don't recover properly or you are not doing whatever it is you think you are doing.

@Gabrielle-zu9oh - 2025-12-03

This is the most motivational weight loss video I've seen lol. What's extra sad about the whole idea that fat people are just lazy and undisciplined is that, for a lot of people, the extra weight is a result of emotional eating, meaning a lot of them are probably kind, compassionate people. It's hard as hell to be a sensitive person in this world, and comfort food is a go-to coping mechanism for a lot of us. It's not laziness, it's empathy and emotional disregulation. Unfortunately that also makes weight loss even harder. I appreciate this video showing why it's worth the struggle.

@maywalker997 - 2025-12-11

Literally anyone can over-eat though, I wouldn't try to class fat people as some kind of superior, kinder type of human being. I've known plenty of fat people who were very ordinarily, selfish, subpar people. Being fat says little about your soul.

And a lot of making healthier choices does ultimately boil down to self-discipline and making a conscious effort to choose better for yourself. There are many fat people out there who although they're miserable being fat, still choose to treat themselves extra food Etc everyday than go on a diet, because diets are hard and they aren't ultimately committed to going on one.

If a part of you goes "I probably shouldn't eat that cookie (but then you still do it)", "That pasta portion is probably a bit large (but then you still serve it up anyway)", "I've spent the whole day sitting down, I should probably go for a walk (but then you don't)", "I should drink water with my meal (but then you choose soda)" or "That plate looks really beige (but then you don't add any green veggies)", then these are ALL conscious choices that you're making (and you need to accept that!).

Your weight and constitution is a result of the choices you make every day that add up over the long-term. If you disempower yourself by saying stuff like "I'm fat because I'm an emotionally sensitive person, it's not my fault" or "It's not me who made me this way, it's society", all you are doing is making excuses for yourself whilst really guaranteeing that nothing about your body is going to change for the better, sending yourself to an unhappy, unhealthy early grave.

Please learn to love yourself in healthier, more productive ways and accept that you have more control over this situation because you ARE making conscious choices every day, every meal. Anyone can lose weight if they really want to, as millions have attested to.

@braxtongay9983 - 2025-12-14

@maywalker997 Exactly, I was obese as a kid and called it emotional eating. It is but its the same way alcohol is emotional drinking. Obesity is the result of addiction and im tired of people pretending its not.

@GraveUypo - 2025-12-15

everything in the world kept worsening for me for years. then i stopped and thought: hey, i have full control of ONE of these things. can't do shit about the world going to the gutter but i can surely fix my weight creeping up to dangerous levels.
i started a diet that day with intentions of going for 2 years. i would stick to it no matter what, even if it didn't seem to be working - which it didn't at various points, i should mention. anyway, i got to my goal in one year.

now, for the first time in a while, i can be proud to look back at "two years ago" at that crossroad and not think "damn, if i had started then, i'd be done by now" - because i actually did start, and i am done. even though i made some permanent changes.

@SofiaJulean - 2025-12-15

My granny works all the time, but never loses weight. So as a matter of fact, some people just cant lose weight. That does not mean their lazy.

@IFA1 - 2025-12-17

@SofiaJulean you don't gain fat from not working, you gain it and sustain it from eating more energy than you need and the body stores it.

Emphasis on energy, not volume.

You can eat 1 meal a day and still gain weight if it has too much energy.

Your granny probably snacks a bit or during regular meals eats energy dense foods regularly.

You could lay in bed all day and not gain fat, if you only ate what you needed and not excess energy.

@rh7583 - 2025-11-18

1:18 here in Mexico, food with excess of salt, sugar, calories, etc. have warnings. So if a cereal ,for example, has one of those warnings, they can't use characters on their packages so it doesn't get kids' attention

@yuliyab3629 - 2025-11-18

Canada just started doing it too. I didn't think it would make a difference since I already look at labels and know when a food is high in sugar/fat but seeing that warning actually helps with the impulse purchases.

@alejandrooceguera4656 - 2025-11-18

@dragoshi3621 - 2025-11-18

In some EU countries, we use the Nutri-Score to determine how ''healthy'' a food is, scored from A (the healthiest) to E (the unhealthiest)... although it is a bit misleading. The Nutri-Score accounts of products in *the same category*, so a chocolate bar with Nutri-Score of A may still be unhealthier than cereal with a Nutri-Score of C (this may or may not be the case for some foods, but this gives you a general idea of how it works and how it can be misleading). What i'd recommend doing is to just look at the nutrition information and determine if it's (not) good for you

@RickJaeger - 2025-11-18

Fat lot of good it's doing them. Mexico is as obese as the United States.

@theunknown21329 - 2025-11-19

Remember to start slow and keep exercise consistent. Don't try to overachieve by running 5km and quitting in one week. Walk 2km for 2 weeks then add volume gently. Same for gyms too.

@thomaskositzki9424 - 2025-11-19

True! 😃
I tell people who take up excercise one thing: go sloooow.
Your body isn't used to the loads of even light training after years of inactivity and neglect. Nothing hits worse on motivation than getting inured after 1-2 weeks.

@ArjayLogan - 2025-11-20

@shadowgirl11 - 2025-12-14

I just reached a healthy BMI of 24.5. It took me 4 years. I went from 280lbs to 165lbs. What really helped me was calorie counting and having cheat days. Now to maintain I generally know how much calories everything is and if I over eat one day I eat less the next day to balance it out. Overall I feel more confident and I can now wear clothes that make me feel good. It isn't easy but once you give up it ends there.

@chubbybunny127 - 2026-01-08

That's some incredible work!!
You should be so proud!
And because it wasn't a crash diet you keeping that weight off is way more realistic 💛

@tristanedley - 2026-02-11

Incredible work. I myself have gone from 300-200. I would preface, cheat days are not controllable or feasible for some people. Especially near the start of a diet (first few weeks/month) accountability to yourself should be managed and dialled in first

@Thegreatglycogenesis - 2026-03-21

I wouldn’t really recommend calorie counting since calories are a bs metric but if it works for you it doesn’t matter

@vironx22 - 2025-11-18

As someone in the process of losing weight after becoming prediabetic... this hits just a bit harder. Thank you.

@OddlyIncredible - 2025-11-18

I feel you, but you got this. ("Widowmaker" heart attack survivor here with high A1C/prediabetes, CAD, and of course obesity.)

It doesn't take much to get started and the changes you'll feel will be amazing. 15 minutes of activities that elevate your heart rate 3 times a week is a great place to start - just a brisk paced walk around your neighborhood can do this - and won't feel like you're trying to kill yourself.

@shark23-17 - 2025-11-18

@DanielSultana - 2025-11-18

8:28 the fact that "fat is still mostly discussed through the lens of aesthetics first..." also contributes negatively to other aspects of health, especially mental health. So not only do you get all the negatives highlighted in this video towards physical health, but also mental health is effected negatively which in turn also further effects physical health negatively in a viscous cycle

@mustafasas7012 - 2025-11-18

That only applies if your mind Is weak and you cry on yourself all the time. Intead one choses not to be fat both for the social and health befenit, and if you dont want to try to not be fat, Just dont care about It because youre already not caring about It. Like wtf

@crashlanding9938 - 2025-11-18

You can also use negative emotions and energy as motivation.

@felixmoore6781 - 2025-11-18

Inviscid cycles are indeed better.

@CtrlAlt5 - 2025-11-18

@mustafasas7012 Let me take this seriously first. You don't get to control or decide what emotions you feel about events. You just feel certain ways about things, you didn't pick those things, you respond to those feelings. you don't just say "I won't care about this anymore" and magically it happens. come on man.

you can control what you do with your feelings. or at least most of the time. but you can't just say "I will no longer find spiders scary" and then the magic thought makes it happen. There is work, and pain involved in making that change. you have to find the root cause of your fear and hopefully find a way to change the way you think about that thing and this assumes it's only one experience. if you have a lifetime of thinking a specific way about something you don't just get to stop thinking that way. it's part of what makes you, you at this point.

Lastly. what do you mean by "weak mind". what is this? starwars? are you going to tell me the force is real next? Get out of here with that elitists thinking.

8:02 This fact is quite interesting, because a little known fact that explains a whole lot is that the very geniuses behind the smoking scandal and campaign moved to the food and pharmacy industries when the government forced them to be honest about smoking risks. 🤔

@Gamer-King21 - 2025-11-19

Elaborate

@chaddaifouche536 - 2025-11-19

@Gamer-King21 It's pretty straightforward and very well established (this is publicly available information, not conspiracy theory) that big Tobacco companies have been buying small and medium food company and putting the same scientist, engineers and ads agency that produced the more addictive and attractive cigarettes to work on tweaking and promoting their food products to make them extremely addictive once again… Does it explain everything about the current food landscape? Definitely not, but it's a piece of information that sheds some light to the obesity epidemics and the evolution of food trends.

@filtrations - 2025-11-19

Good to know

@dutchvanl - 2025-11-19

Generic Art Dad put out a video on this a while back that explains a lot if anyone's interested.

@panzerfich - 2025-11-18

besides our food being addictive, it's important to note that (for obvious reasons) we are "addicted" to food by nature. i don't mean comparing hunger to a withdrawal symptom, but rather that we also get this "reward" feeling when we eat something, even if it isn't processed food with flavor enhancers.
of course my point is super obvious and not some new revolutionary idea, but it's funny to think about how eating can be fun for us but we still like to ironically make jokes like "my cat has been starving because it hasn't been fed in over 5 minutes!" or how dogs will literally eat everything that you drop by accident. eating is a form of addiction that can be beneficial in moderation but very dangerous once you overdo it.

@kierasher1 - 2025-11-18

They were simplifying. Your body's signals for "you've had enough" work well enough, but with caveats. They covered the over production of leptin problem, but what they over simplified is that our bodies also have another "satiation override" which has purely to do with how good food tastes. The working theory is that our body can store excess fuel and if something tastes REALLY good, it'll be gone soon by other "resource competitors", so the instinct is to just go ahead and over consume. In an effort to compete on taste, companies accidentally hit this threshold and caused this problem we have today, but now knowing this, you can just avoid buying food that tastes too good, or at the very least don't purchase food that you KNOW you have control issues with.

@yellowblobby - 2025-11-18

I don’t think so. The reward response is more tied to flavors than the actual removing of hunger. That’s why people develop food dependence during the age of flavor enhanced food, else the reward system gets pretty much regulated by itself through satiety.

Naturally addicted to food...At this point you could also just say we are addicted to breathing addicted to sleeping addicted to whatever else necessary for survival and that feels great when done yet hasn’t been altered to feel enhanced to a competitive degree...

@ChristopherGuilday - 2025-11-18

That’s only true if you prioritize foods high in carbs. If you eat a balanced diet you will inherently eat the correct amount of food without even having to think about it. The problem is people are aware of this, so they try cutting out carbs, find that they’re still starving and they think it doesn’t work. It does work, you just have to do it for a minimum of 1 month and then you’ll stop craving high carb food / your hunger hormones will normalize. There is no secret to weight loss, it’s literally the most simple process there is. Eat less food than you burn and you’ll lose weight. If you want to be less hungry while doing that then eat less carbs. That’s it, it’s that simple.

If you aren’t sure what foods are high in carbs, it’s pretty much every food that you’d prefer to eat, excluding meats / cheese.

@ChristopherGuilday - 2025-11-18

@kierasher1Basically to simplify what you said, just buy foods that are very low in carbs. They won’t taste very good (excluding meats / cheese) but over time it’ll reduce your hunger hormones to the point where you won’t even want to overeat.

I’m 32 and I’ve never been over weight. I go to the gym 5x a week. I never crave sweet food or junk food, and don’t really care for food high in carbs. Now there’s been times I’ve intentionally tried to “bulk” - and after eating high carb foods for a while you absolutely become addicted to them and it’s harder to stop, but after a month of abstaining I go back to normal and don’t crave it anymore.

@3eeToe - 2025-11-18

@kierasher1”accidentally” I don’t buy it. They hire people who study neuroscience to make and market their food in a way that will make them the most money. Even if they were aware of this threshold, there’s zero chance they would’ve cared about the lives they’re destroying because it keeps them coming back for more every time

@sarahluchies1076 - 2025-11-25

My husband is dealing with a lot of these symptoms. Through a combination of genetics, stress and untreated ADHD, losing weight was a losing battle. The first week he started taking ADHD meds, he started losing weight, because all of his effort was no longer being directed into trying to focus on anything. He has a long way to go, but I know he can do it as long as he is patient with himself.

@purplekermit2162 It's not about eating much, it's about eating right brotha. Not eating much can go bad if the things you're actually eating got 0 protein.

I was actually surprised that when I got rid of all the food that had terrible balance on calories/protein ratio and got some carbs on the side it was really easy to lose 5kg eventually.

The good part about being fat is that being on a deficit is as easy as it gets, you actually need to eat a lot of bad stuff to maintain over 150lbs.

Coming from someone critically underweight, having too low of a BMI is just as bad as having a BMI too high. I break a bone multiple times a year, am always tired no matter how much I sleep, can't put on muscle despite being very active, pass out from moving too much, and recently seizures and hypothermia after going a day and a half without eating because I was sick. I ended up going on an extreme weight gain diet after my organs showed signs of potential damage. I'm in a healthier place now (Thank God for hot cocoa and pork chops being so calorie dense) but still very underweight. I never knew how sick I felt all the time until I started getting better, my severe depression and complete lack of any motivation made it hard to eat but it turns out that not eating enough was what was causing that. After just a few weeks of eating like 4000-5000 calories daily it went away and I feel better in every single regard. I was 6'2 and 115 pounds and now I'm 130ish. Still gaining now, hopefully I'll gain enough weight I can start running again, I used to run 5k's every weekend until I started passing out halfway through the races so wish me luck!

@VladimirGluten47 - 2025-11-18

Not a doctor, but I was also very underweight. I fixed this by starting BJJ + weight lifting to build muscle and help get an appetite. I would hesitate do be doing cardio at your weight, it's just burning off all those calories you're forcing yourself to eat for marginal health benefits. Maybe look into weights or something as an intermediate step?
Either way, good luck

@EntropicEcho - 2025-11-18

Good luck! I also used to be borderline underweight. Bouldering and martial arts fixed it for me. :)

@TAEKOOKINFIRES - 2025-11-18

Same, I finally just got to my ideal weight. Took decades! Low BMI is incredibly dangerous! Thanks for spreading the word!

@NoombatIsMe - 2025-11-18

@VladimirGluten47 I can't lift weights as of now by order of my doctor. I talked to them about that pretty recently. I have very weak joints in my arms which led my shoulder to swelling up pretty bad after lifting some tubs in my house. my shoulders are especially bad from breaking my arm a few times and having it in a sling so long so I'll probably have to do physical therapy first to avoiding any injuries. Cardio probably was never smart for me to be doing but running has always been my biggest hobby, I did have to stop recently once it got too dangerous, especially after I took a bad fall after passing out but I'm at least on the right track to hopefully start again pretty soon. I also have hereditary spherocytosis though which means I probably will never be running more than a few miles at a time even if I get into a healthy weight

@LC-wv7tz - 2025-12-07

I'm fat. I have been since I was about 7 years old. I'm in my 30s now, but had a few years of high fitness when I was around 20 where I dropped 60lbs and started running and lifting and doing up to half marathons. Unfortunately I got injured and stopped most of my exercising. Graduate school and office job have been extremely stressful and over 10 years I've gained it all back plus more and got the heaviest I've ever been.

I'm still somewhat active. I don't do sports, but I walk and hike in the forest all the time and in the spring and summer often spend hours working in the garden every week. I've never had bad bloodwork until this year. All of a sudden I had all sorts of bad labs and a bunch of weird symptoms. I apparently have stage 2 non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (I don't drink almost at all) and have a swollen/inflamed liver. It hurts and I can feel it often and if it's not corrected damage can become permanent.

I'm fat at around 245lbs, but not morbidly obese and I have always been at least moderately active even if it's just a few hours of walking each week. I went from fully benign bloodwork in autumn 2024 to stage 2 NAFLD/NASH this summer in only 9 or 10 months. Things can change fast. I'm a FED and this has been an extremely stressful year at work (we worked all through the shutdown -- really though every year the last 2 or 3 years has been really rough) and I had some of the most stressful things in my personal life happen this year too, so I'm sure that's not helping.

I am chipping away at the weight and down around 13lbs. It's hard. I love food and cooking. It's one of the few things I really enjoy in life and love learning new cultures from food. I eat when stressed like a lot of people. But the worst thing that makes it very hard to lose weight is I really do feel like an addict when I haven't eaten. When I'm not satiated I feel tense, irritable, anxious. I can't think or focus. I cannot shake the physical feelings of hunger and it's hard to concentrate or get anything done. Like all I can think about is food and I need to clear that to be able to concentrate on anything else.

I really wish I could take a month off work. I could suffer through all those feelings, but it's so hard to remain productive and on top of things (I'm a scientist/engineer and manage or work on a load of different projects) when I feel that way. I really think I could reset my body in 3 or 4 weeks, but it's impossible to have that much time for myself. I really think if I just had a month to put everything else aside and focus on myself, cooking, establishing better routines, etc it could fix so much for me. As it stands when I do have time off for a weekend I feel floored. I can barely manage to spend my days off fixing the house back up, let alone do things I enjoy. It's not been a great year

Anyway, I'm eating less. Chipping away at weight slowly. Stressed, depressed, dropping the ball at work. Mentally checking out. But health is what's most important. I am just so tired.

@FrickinBasilisk - 2025-12-09

Hey there. I'm here to say that I saw your post and I'm in a similar situation. I'm in my 30's and I clocked in a 230 at some point. I'm short so I would have been considered obese most likely. I wanted to say that I'm down 20 lbs and working on the next 20 since starting 5 months ago. First of all, keep up the good work and thank you for all that you and your office does.

If it helps, I'll comment that the first 15 lbs blew off fast, because it was probably mostly water, but also because I was taking phentermine. It was insane how my appetite was suppressed when I was taking it. I developed resistance to the effects quickly but the effects were significant. For short term that may be a good boost to beating your plateau.

Besides drugs, one thing that helped me a lot is a calorie tracker. I'm using MacroFactor but for me seeing a progress bar on consumption helps me a lot on consumption. It has also helped me look at food differently. Being able to look at what effects pasta or a burger has on my limits has changed how much I eat, what I select etc. Point is that when I get hungry, I eat. That's normal. But what I eat is an apple or an orange. When I look at a menu I'm not looking at calories but looking at what goes into the dish. Cream and cheese? I'll have the vegetarian dish please. Side note, I'm trying to get into a habit of picking vegetarian dishes whenever I eat out now, its not always "healthier" because they substitute with salt or cheese, but more often than not it will be better holistically than a super size choice or second patty or second helping.

And last thing. Its a journey. If you have a cheat week since its the holidays, that's fine. Build up the resilience to keep going. Eat 2 weeks worth of calories at Thanksgiving like I did. Its human to err. If you make the right lifestyle changes, using the tasty fried noodle dishes that I love so much as a reward, you will be able to sustain your weight loss journey.

Also, pre-game your eating out. If you are about to go to a dinner at a fancy steakhouse where the vegetables are an after thought, where the sides are mashed potatoes or french fries, other fried things, bacon bits, mac and cheese etc, eat a bag of steamed or boiled vegetables or fruits before you go out. Save money, skip dessert, eat less, take the rest to go. Its all little tricks to live a sustainable food life.

Again, its a journey. A Marathon. It takes 3 weeks to form a habit but 3 months to break it, or something like that. If you're tired, take the edge off. Hit yourself with some fiber supplements in the morning. There's so much more stress out there, no need to bring it into your weight loss journey where it messes with your love for cooking or other chores. If you can't balance working out with house hold tasks, make those house hold tasks a workout. Wear an Apple Watch or Garmin Watch and see how raking the leaves is building that calorie deficit. Be proud of your progress, however little.

Our relationship with food is shaped by our brain, be it being over or underweight. I have had an ED where i was majorly underweight, and now i struggle to not overeat, because food has become a comfort where everything else is just stressful and overwhelming. And i really see that my emotional state affects how i eat. When i get in the depths of my depression, i actually stop eating and just sleep. Neither extreme is good, but point is i have a lot of empathy for everyone who struggles with weight, because so much of it is tied to our emotions.

8:36 notice how he said “healthi-ISH.” You don’t need to eat purely lettuce and fruit to lose weight. You can have SOME sweets. And don’t listen to influencers that try to scare you saying shit like “this costco chicken is POISON.”

@DLarex - 2026-01-15

But why would you have that chocolate? All you're doing is enabling the sweet addiction with that dopamine hit. A few weeks off the sugar and you don't even miss it.

@RexSplode-l9m - 2026-01-17

@DLarexMaybe because that’s what makes people stick to diets? And your brain literally runs on it. By eating a chocolate/candy a day, you keep it in your diet and don’t miss it. If you miss it, you’re likely going to eat more of it from cravings.

@DLarex - 2026-01-17

@RexSplode-l9mWhat a 'broscience' approach, you are clearly clueless, carry on

@JustChillin-u1k - 2026-02-07

@DLarex No, you are the clueless one. If you completely stop everything, all at once, there's a chance a person's body will revolt and you'll likely end up in a binge fest. We get hormonal signals from food(like you said) and body doesn't take withawals too well.

The only way to lose weight is to eat less calories than you exert daily. That's it. If a small piece of chocolate daily fits in someone's calorie deficit that person will still lose weight while still indulging in their favourites, just in smaller ammounts.

@DLarex - 2026-02-07

@JustChillin-u1kIt takes less than 10 days for the sugar craving to disappear. All you're doing with that chocolate is maintaining the addiction and sense of 'need'

If you can't control a craving for a couple of weeks without binging thats just pathetic

@markmuller7962 - 2025-11-18

I've completely quit added sugars and I've never felt this healthy before

@themarkerchannel3170 - 2025-11-18

8:10 that was one sick ass transition

@mrcamels3643 - 2025-11-18

I have a fast food addiction. I come from a family of addicts, so I've always been careful not to drink or do drugs because I know I wouldn't be able to stop. When I got my first job at a fast food place and started making money, I started to eat there a lot do to free meals on shift. Then it became a comfortable and safe food (I have ARFID and fast food almost always being the same makes it so much easier to eat than other food.) Then when I got a different job, I still ate at the fast food place constantly. I thought it was just because I liked their food (this was before I was diagnosed with ARFID,) and never really thought too much about it. When it started to become really expensive I tried to cut back. That was when I realized I was addicted to it. My brain will make all sorts of rationalization for why it's okay for me to eat out, sometimes completely stopping me from stomaching anything else. I wasn't told growing up you could get addicted to fast food. All the effort I've put in to be diligent against drugs and alcohol and I ended up addicted to something I didn't even know was a problem. Recovery has been slow (ARFID not helping,) but I'm mostly able to eat out once or twice a week instead of every day like I used to for months.

@fredericapanon207 - 2025-11-18

Congratulations on cutting down from every day to once or twice a week. That is huge!

I only realised how one can get addicted to sugar when I went on a yeast-avoidance diet. In my case, the cravings were caused by dying yeast cells releasing chemicals in my body. Knowing that it wasn't ME that felt the sugar craving but dying yeast cells helped a bit in fighting the cravings. It did get better after a couple of weeks once the level of yeasts diminished.

@RoadsideCookie - 2025-11-18

I don't really deal with addiction myself, I'm wired the other way and get bored of everything too fast to stay hooked. But I've seen what addiction looks like up close, and most people in my life struggle with one thing or another.

I'm saying that because I want you to know that people like me notice what you're doing. The effort you're putting in isn't invisible. It takes real work to push against something that keeps pulling you back, and you're doing it anyway.

We want you to be happy. We believe in you. And we're genuinely proud of how far you've already come. Keep going.

@Turnoutburndown - 2025-11-18

That shits the worst, the book How Not to Die helped break my fast food habit.

@MrCmon113 - 2025-11-19

That place sounds great. What's the name of the restaurant?

@GabrielPettier - 2025-11-19

Changing diet is hard for many reasons, habits, but also how the body work, in particular the guts bacteria need to adjust to process the food you eat, different type of food will favor different ones, and thus when you change diet, it takes some time to digest well, and the bacteria itself might even influence the kind of food you crave, it's a lot easier to change the mix over time than brutally. Slow but in the right direction is better than fast but impossible to sustain, great job on recognizing the problem and acting on it!

@Difius - 2025-12-19

Good luck to you and everyone else on their journey to better health, i myself am also on this path to a brighter future. I've at this point lost 25kg in the past half year, changing my diet and exercising regularly really made a massive impact. I would say though that the diet has probably had a greater effect than the exercise itself but not taking away from the importance of exercising. It gets hard at times to be strict with your diet and keep to your workout routines, i, myself have also had ups and downs where i haven't stayed true to what i wanted out of this journey but i believe in myself and i will make it through this, it will all be worth it in the end and also even though i've had ups and downs with weight through out the years i really feel like i am at the point in time where i'm finally ready to be the best version of myself, i have finally allowed myself to believe that i can achieve this!

@mayonnaiseeee - 2025-11-18

2:20 aww the hormones are so cute

@ComradeGreg - 2025-11-18

I'm 19, I'm 1.91 meters (6'3") tall, and 6 months ago I weighed 124 kg (274 lbs). But then I started my diet and getting in shape. I now weigh 98 kg (216 lbs) and plan on reaching 90 kg (200 lbs) by my birthday, 3 months from now.

My grandpa died from diabetes a few years ago. Ever since then I've been struggling with mental health. Then I started working with my therapist, and a few months later, started losing weight. I'm more confident, more self loving, I'm stronger and more healthy, and I can finally see an end that isn't grim.

Thing is, I've always been bullied for my looks and weight. It never helped, obviously. People need to go through this rehab from food on their own, as it is mostly an addiction to food dopamines feeling fun. Just like cigs and alcohol, there's a circle of shame (more food/cigs/alcohol leads to more shame leads to more food/cigs/alcohol)

@amarFazil-iu4ir - 2025-11-18

bruv im 35 kgs

@Fuzznag - 2025-11-18

Such great height at that age. Don’t waste that genetic lottery win by overeating. Around 90 kg sounds ideal for you. You’ve got this.

@ComradeGreg - 2025-11-18

@Fuzznag Thx man. I'm planning on going even below 90 kg to account for the eventual swing up. As someone who's done diets before, the worst part is stopping the diet and going back up in weight, but my thesis is if I go below 90 I can stabilize around 90

@Water-raaa - 2025-11-18

Hey, I don’t know if someone’s told you this, but that’s amazing! Good on you for trying your best, I’m proud of you!

@DannGalenMD - 2025-11-18

MD here!, In the intro related to fat, I wanted to clarify that ‘adipose tissue’ is the correct term instead of organ. 'Fat' in this context refers to the lipids (specific organic molecules) found in the body. Great video worth watching 👏🏼👏🏼

@mmhg2986 - 2025-11-19

I just want to further clarify what you mean (to make sure I am understanding your point correctly); you meant to suggest the correction that adipose tissue is the term for the organ and that "fat" is referring to the lipid molecule, correct?

By saying "'adipose tissue' is the correct term instead of organ", it sounds like you're saying adipose tissue is not an organ, which is likely not accurate as adipose tissue refers to a collection of fully differentiated cells, such as matured adipocytes and other cells that make up the stromal vascular fraction (SVF). However, I think you were trying to suggest that adipose tissue is the correct term for the organ, rather than "instead of" organ. Let me know your thoughts.

@mmhg2986 - 2025-11-19

Also, for future comments, it's probably not necessary to assert your medical degree before providing accurate reasoning, evidence, or any formal explanation, as it can present as an appeal to authority fallacy which can detract from the inherent credibility of your factual information. Instead, consider providing a source or suggest a way to reproduce your explanation to provide transparent credibility for your explanations! This can possibly help reach more people with your health teaching :)

Have a great day and please continue educating!

They should've also gone into the metabolic differences between subcutaneous and visceral fat more, like how visceral fat becomes more dangerous in excess because it expands via hypertrophy whereas subcutaneous fat expands via hyperplasia.

@MatMontre - 2026-02-11

Just a simple comment to say that your animations quality is just top notch. The cuteness of the cells, the seriously-pumping heart, all those make it both charming and captivating.
