GET SMARTER SECTION:
A quick clarification....
It took me 8 months to learn how to do this, but I was only picking up the bike and running to the end of the driveway and back every day. I wasn't "ACTIVELY" trying to learn. Meaning... I wasn't struggling and trying to make my brain learn. I simply got on the bike every day, tried to operate it to the end of the driveway, turned around and tried to operate it back. The goal was to understand how my brain figured things out on its own, without trying to force it to. Many people have built bikes like this and figured it out in much less than 1 day by staying on the bike until they were able to master it. I had no timelines, and was using this as an exploratory activity to learn how I learn.

Do not misinterpret this to mean that I struggled and tried very hard every day for 8 months. That's simply not true.

Mamink - 2019-09-21

I thought this was going to be a bike where you'd have to pedal backwards to get it to move lol

Tanmay Jain - 2020-02-27

@zEEp I MADE EXACTLY THAT in a high school summer vacations. Front pedal it goes front , back pedal makes it go back. using two gears and two chains . But the back part was very hard to balance.

Vaishakh Balachandran - 2020-03-06

Me too

3l H4ck3r C0mf0r7 - 2020-03-09

@420protoman While what you're saying might be true, I'm pretty sure the brain is more than well suited to unconsciously compensate for things like that?

420protoman - 2020-03-09

@3l H4ck3r C0mf0r7 the bike is physically impossible to ride cuz of where your weight shifts its a fail

Virus 24 - 2020-03-17

Me 2!

Rodrigo Riboldi - 2019-12-09

> build a bike like this
> forget how to ride normal bikes
> learn to ride the inverted bike
> use just the inverted bike
> never get your bike stolen again

Wade Marley - 2020-03-01

Stuart Mills But... It is racism. You have built a systemic racist system since the founding of this nation through the slavery of african americans, note I say African American because even after we stopped bringing slaves, more were born here into it. Imagine having done nothing to earn your spot in society, just luck that your ancestors were NOT the ones in shackles or getting whipped in the “name of god”, There is no such things as white people being genetically superior, because you are not, you are not mixed, you don’t have the strength of Africans, the resilience of a hispanic or the loyalty of actual caucasians. You are racist, so it’s safe to suggest you are genetically inferior inbred material, it’s why you probably have a million health problems, with more coming as you age. But hey when you get shot, don’t blame color, look in the mirror. Im more afraid of a white person now a days anyways, you’re a bunch of school shooters, at least if my bike is stolen it won’t kill kids. Plus it’s a bike, cheap, I would give it to someone if they really need it... you are not very bright huh. Watching this channel? Still making ignorant comments. Guess learning is not really your forte.

dreamervanroom - 2020-03-05

Thieves are dumber than you think -- and they can toss a stolen bike into a pickup.

dreamervanroom - 2020-03-05

@Wade Marley wot? Troll.

AwesomePow - 2020-03-10

OR teach your kids ONLY how to use that bike.

موسى - 2020-03-17

Stuart Mills your a dumbass mate

d_boss_mx K - 2020-01-04

I wouldnt recommend hopping on a motorcycle after doing this.

Bobby Smith - 2020-02-09

@probably_drunk you also do it on a bike after a few miles an hour. You just didn't know it.

Bobby Smith - 2020-02-09

@SueUTube you contersteer a bike too.

Roch Boulanger - 2020-02-10

@probably_drunk Countersteering is much different from sterring backwards. As you said, when you countersteer you're already going 15mph which makes the vehicle WAYY more stable and more easy to judge and predict how it will react. Having to steer backwards from a stop while releasing the clutch would definitely be much different.

Chris T - 2020-03-01

Counter stearing works the same on a bicycle as it does a motorcycle althought I also think it could be applied to a low speed inverted bicycle. push left turn left...

kowal789 - 2020-03-12

As a matter of fact, after a specific speed on a motorcycle toy need to crank the bars right to go left and vice versa.

Itz3bood - 2020-01-02

dustin: it took me 8 months to learn it

kiddo: hold my milk

Kshitish Sorte - 2020-01-31

No this is Patrick - 2020-02-05

hold my juice box

Spencer PhilippineDream - 2020-02-10

finally someone made that stupid "hold my ......" joke funny.

Zoo Kee - 2020-02-19

Duh have someone who has no idea how to ride a bike I'm sure he'll get it faster

Magellanic - 2020-02-24

are you implying milk is a children's drink? milk is for legends, how dare you.

Gunner Schenck - 2020-01-03

My mans just used a bicycle to teach you how to stop having a fixed mindset. This is what we need in the world today. New subscriber. 👍👍

Braian Pita - 2020-02-02

The whole point of the video was quite the opposite tho, how you can't really get rid of bias completely

3l H4ck3r C0mf0r7 - 2020-03-07

@Braian Pita Mindset and bias are not one and the same. Yes, you can't get rid of biases, but a fixed mindset is a conscious decision people make. "This is the nature of things, and anybody thinking otherwise is either actually trying to trick other people or being tricked themselves."

Braian Pita - 2020-03-07

@3l H4ck3r C0mf0r7 well yeah but that's the point, it's a conscious decision that as soon as you let your guard down it can fail you again

3l H4ck3r C0mf0r7 - 2020-03-07

@Braian Pita At the end, the point he's making is "I came into this thinking I could conquer my cognitive biases and comprehend bike mechanics well enough to swap any sign in my brain's "ride a bike" formula on the fly! Now I know how I can't."
That's having a flexible mindset, and what OP's statement boils down to.

R D - 2020-03-09

@3l H4ck3r C0mf0r7 true this

Kai Belzer - 2019-08-04

Anyone else think that he was gonna ride a bike literally backwards?

Goblin 31 - 2020-01-23

@sigsputnik1 +1 haha

TRiTGeRizZ - 2020-01-25

That would be a fixie ride

God Help Me - 2020-01-30

Destin: you can not ride this bike for more then ten feet

Me an intellectual: * does wheelie *

Kashish Garg - 2020-02-08

That won’t work. While starting a bike you do minor corrections using the handle to get the centre of gravity correct. With the handle reversed you would push opposite to your centre of gravity. Same would happen even if you do a wheelie.

Joseph Jester - 2020-02-19

I bet ten minutes on that bike would prove you wrong right away. LOL

Desert Crusader - 2020-02-21

@Kashish Garg you can always do the corrections while stationary and perform a wheelie with the front wheel center aligned. Just look up a wheelie youtube video.

Guero ESR - 2020-03-04

There’s a point called the balance point in a wheelie. No momentum in the front wheel needed just the perfect balance of forward motion and brake to find that balance point

a channel - 2020-03-14

Hilwan Hamdi think you are getting confused using the term momentum, momentum is a force that allows an object to keep moving and gather speed it’s a force that gradually builds up and it’s not sudden. To perform a wheelie you need a sudden burst of power which throws all the weight backwards lifting the front end upwards as the forces pulling the rear of the bike backwards are greater then gravity trying to pull the front end back downwards. To wheelie a push bike all you need to do is position the pedal which your dominant leg is on at around 10 or 11 o’clock as you punch down hard on the pedal throw your weight backwards and the front wheel comes up.

@deus vult bruh

sam michaels - 2020-01-24

5:17 hurt my brain more than any other video I’ve seen on this channel. The idea that you intentionally backwards your brain, and now a normal bike is like where you started out on the backwards bike... just insane.....

Fee Nok - 2019-12-21

1:44
Oh my god i laughed so hard xD Didnt see that one comming

Paul TheSkeptic - 2019-06-18

Leave it somewhere unattended and video surveilled and wait for a bike thief. That would be the funniest footage ever.

Todd m - 2019-09-19

U need to send this link n that comment to a prank channel that will actually do it. That would absolutely be hilarious.

Rodney Lindenmayer - 2019-09-24

Paul TheSkeptic : yes, the reversed handlebars would TOTALLY interfere.

Richard Pfeifer - 2019-09-24

Anne Katrine Kamper - 2019-12-10

When you accidentally invert the camera controls in a video game

Skyett - 2020-01-08

1:45
sorry but it made me laugh how that person just fell out of nowhere and the biker crashed

Manu De Maesschalck - 2019-12-16

If he offerd me 200 $ toride 10 feet i would just do a wheelie

Max Neale - 2020-01-22

milk yo doesnt work bro trust me, as soon as you push off your brain subconsciously makes corrections to balance you, which makes you fall over when steering is reversed. plus if you hold them perfectly straight you will still fall off anyway cause you have to steer to balance, try ride your normal bike with the steering completely locked.

nickalina - 2020-01-24

The moving of the handle bars and wheel are part of being able to balance when doing a wheelie.

Jorge C. M. - 2020-01-26

offered*

Bucket_head - 2020-02-04

Nate Jones I would do that
I can ride anywhere no handed (exaggerating of course, this is the internet. I could do 10 feet though)

Samuel Costa - 2020-02-16

The balance is backwards It is not just The hand movements. Even free handed when you try to compensate to The right It would go to The left and vice versa

Bloody Pommel Studios - 2019-12-12

I've tried one of these bikes and it really is that hard. I can write in mirror writing or upside down and adjust to inverted controls in games in a second or so but this is completely different because it involves coordinating 100s of muscles and fundamentally different movements.

Caleb Collier - 2020-01-21

Bloody Pommel Studios I’ve tried it too

monkeymafia729 - 2015-10-10

I think you have just discovered the best anti bike theft mechinism

sanya - 2019-09-25

A bike that can flip-flop between both modes unless the owner attach a gear = BEST SOLUTION !

Seek God First - 2020-01-01

Absolutely amazing when it "clicked"

tallcip65 - 2020-01-02

Did your son end up fubar’d too and if so do you feel bad about making him forget how to ride a normal bike?

594bolt - 2019-12-25

I tried to pee holding my ding-dong with my left hand, chugging a beer with my right while bouncing on a pogo-stick. The nurse in the E.R. thought I was crazy.

FUDDLEYP JONES - 2020-02-26

And she was pissed that you got pee all over her!

Ride Around - 2019-12-09

“Knowledge is not understanding” great statement for many things

Mr.Normal Guy - 2019-09-22

Imagine a theft running away from a cop and he tries to get away with this bicycle.

HansDelbruck53 - 2019-12-14

Don't you mean a "thief"?

Mr.Normal Guy - 2019-12-14

@HansDelbruck53 owh, i think i played too much grand theft auto

Sidewalkchalker87 - 2019-12-21

He would have 35 bullets in him before he got anywhere near the bike.

Jim Halpert - 2020-01-01

And the cops laugh cause the guy that did theft couldn't ride a bike

Happy Hippo - 2020-01-11

This is actually a really efficient way to prevent someone from stealing your bike...

Dan Joseph - 2020-03-21

I get it . When I was a young kid my neighbors had a go cart that someone made , but the steering was backwards. I tried to drive it and it was frustrating.... of course I didn’t have to balance it like you did on the bike..

Znc. - 2020-03-14

1:45 why is no one talking about this poor lady

Makuna Hatatata - 2020-01-02

This guy has such a great positive vibe, transmitting it through his videos.

James A - 2020-01-30

"Ride the bike 10 feet"
Me: gets on, a scooters it.

AWW_ YEA81 - 2019-06-29

"You can't ride this bicycle you might think you can but you can't"

Me: "Oh I can definitely ride that"

M M - 2019-09-24

@Toaster R you'd first have to gain momentum to let go of the handlebars
Anyone who actually rides a bike knows this

Taylor nicole - 2019-09-25

I feel like you need to close your eyes and pretend your driving backwards

Taylor Langley - 2019-09-25

The thing is when you put torque on the pedal you shift your weight to your other side for leverage. All you need to do is grab the shaft below the handle bars and you can shift your weight to the center of the bike.

Toaster R - 2019-09-25

I think all of our ingenious solutions here are beyond the point.... Props to everyone's ideas tho

Sandou Mir - 2019-11-24

@AWW_ YEA81 Somebody missed the point of the video and got confused because a bicycle was used as the visual explanation. No: you can not do this in less than an hour even if you have not ever even seen a bike in your entire life. (not even counting the learning how to ride one, reverse or not, in the first place)

Lion 1 - 2020-01-18

The trick is to turn right and left at a comfortable speed to adjust from falling.
Ask me how I know, my goose neck was wore out...

TheCman2882 - 2020-01-19

Mark O - 2019-12-15

Wow, I can't believe I haven't seen this video though it's almost 5 years old. I think what Dustin did here is freaking amazing. He rewired his own brain for no other reason than he knew it could be done and he wanted to find out what it would be like. The whole process was fascinating.

Duy Nguyễn Hữu Quang - 2019-07-03

I think people who have never driven a bike can drive this bike.

Gakamis Gaming - 2019-09-25

no, because you cant learn to drive a bike instantly. It would still take a good amount of time.

ImidaystarsnackI - 2019-09-26

Idk how to ride one so lol

UTKARSH KUMAR - 2019-09-28

That's literally Every1 coz we r used to seen ride a bicycle in a manner n when it changes every1 will have difficulty just like when we learn to ride a bike same process repeats itself n that's why nocan can do it in 1 go

Spaghetti Coronara - 2019-09-28

Angry Duck In German we say drive a bike (Fahrrad fahren), it would be weird to say ride a bike in German 😄 we only ride a 🐴

Maulen. IDC Florez - 2020-01-05

Nah. Then you'd just be learning how to ride a bike.

Ninajuanramirezz • - 2020-02-03
