The t-shirt sale is over, but other items are still available! NileRed Store: https://nilered.tv/store ------------------------------------------- For a couple years now, I've been wanting to turn cotton balls into edible (and literal) cotton candy. It took me a while to figure out how to do it, but I finally did it! This is kind of a follow-up to my previous project, where I turned toilet paper into drinkable alcohol (moonshine). In that one, I used an enzyme called cellulase, but that didn't seem to work here. So, instead, I used concentrated sulfuric acid. It’s been along time since I’ve made cotton candy… However I think your experiment would go better if you turned the sugar into a powder. The machine is designed to turn a powder into cotton candy not chunks
if you watch Rosanna Pansino's cotton candy videos she turns things like jolly ranchers and starbursts into cotton candy by throwing them into the machine right out of the wrapper
I agree this turns powder in cotton candy not chunks of sugar into cotton candy he's also putting way to much effort in this
It seems more beneficial if he would have tested for melting point to verify it would work
That and also dehydrating it as much as possible, I think the extra water content might be why it was denser

I love this guy. I'd want to be his assistant or something so I can learn from his genius and participate in these experiments.

This is insane! This is legit really interesting to see how chemicals react with each other.
The fact that NileRed is more confident with sulfuric acid than he is with just a regular cotton candy maker is cracking me up
book smart vs carneval smart
@Potatoey Boi ]
He didn't even powder the sugar before putting it in the machine...
The dude would rather do a careful caramelzation before thinking of just powdering the stuff...
What's funny about this is how seemingly he is much more comfortable with chemistry than cooking.
To be fair, he handles sulfuric acid a bit more than a cotton candy maker
I love that no matter how many times he fails he always finds a way to succeed! Great job Man! These videos are super entertaining and very informative!
always want to see nile just pick up these beakers and have a taste at each step of the process
Just so unfortunate that if he did that he could probably only do it once..
Taste The Acid
Tasting sulphuric acid
10:27 I’m relieved that I wasn’t the only one who thought it was starting to look delicious 🤣🤣
That glucose liquid went from looking like iced coffee, to piss, to beer and then whisky. Is he sure he aint making more moonshine :)
So, now we have carbonated diamond water that is indistinguishable from normal carbonated water, some booze that probably taste like my granddad's garage and the saddest, the most pathetic cotton candy in the world
@rx323bug the 6 infinity Nile red projects
где ролики по доте урод
And winter fresh from aspirin you can easily overdose.
But it’s basically food made from diamonds, toilet paper, cotton balls, and plastic gloves.
Dude love the transatlanticism pfp
I love how he sarcastically drops things with no audio behind it. It's like his trademark
After this, turning lead into gold should be a walk in the park.
I don't do chemistry but all your videos are so cool! Also, it was surprising and pretty to me to watch the cotton dissolve into purpleness.
Sugar Honey Ice Tea!
this is the most excitingly weird video i've ever seen on the internet, making cotton candy using normal cotton is amazingly nerdy but very cool 🤓💓
3yr old: Is cotton candy made from cotton?
The parent: No it's not.
NileRed: You are not going to believe this.
Imagine the horror of us dutch children having the same train of thought. (cotton candy in Dutch = suikerspin which literally translates to sugarspider). So Nile, can you turn spiders(webs) into cotton candy?
@DDub04 the 3 year old is the parent?
I like to imagine he just smashed the window and crawled in to show this child a cotton candy made of cotton
@Nippy Bridge in french it is Barbapapa which literally means dad Beard or if you wanna make it grammatically correct in English it is daddy's beard.
can we just appreciate that how much hard working he is!. bro you're awsomee
Haven't been watching your channel for long...you are a lot younger than I had imagined. But not in a bad way, just unexpected that you have all of this knowledge being so young. Kick ass man. Keep it up.
I love Niles haircut, he owns it like a boss and it looks fantastic on him.
Now I'm just wondering if you can turn edible cotton candy into inedible cotton but still with flavor 🤔
With no knowledge of chemistry, this makes me feel like a medieval peasant witnessing alchemy.
@Kunal Adhikari yeah its just an everyday thing being a farmer and seeing some guy turn cotton into a god damn candy. I at least hope you know what alchemy even is, if you don’t, stay out of this convo, alchemy was a huge thing in medieval times.
@iPro lmao I CANNOT BELIEVE you are responding to a comment I made 3 months ago and expect me to know wtf you are talking about. I can't even find the comment I made that reply in response to. Regardless, I do hope you enjoy your alchemy or whatever tf it was you wanted to debate me on. I'll stick to chemistry (for now and for the rest of my life).
@Kunal Adhikari wtf do you mean I never said convert to alchemy I just explained what it is because you clearly didn’t know to be defending that Candice girl or whatever the hell her name was
same
Excuse me but what exactly did @P. Candice Goddard write
Wow it's always shocking when I check how often Nile Red uploads. But it makes sense he's developing crazy chemistry experiments as a one man army.
Wow science... I'm so glad I found your channel. In school this was always my favorite subject, all the sciences and chemistry. I cant get enough.
I'm pretty sure your low yield was due to a significant amount of the first cotton balls you put in there were turned into dodecane by dehydration. As the water content from that reaction was diluting the acid it shifted the main reaction product from alkanes to sugars. You probably managed to remove the alkanes with the active charcoal.
I like how he explains the whole process a lab report procedure.
Nile red is the type of person that when life gives him lemonade he’s going to try to make lemons

I just found your channel and this whole video is just amazing. If you were my chemistry teacher back in high school, I think i'd be more interested in chemistry
We need more guys with that love at science like you
This was awesome! By any chance, could a nitrogen evaporator been used instead of a food dehydrator?
This video made me happy! You should have pulverized the sugar into smaller grains. Your thicker strands likely came from the larger pieces shedding the strands instead of grains getting yanked out!
Thank you for all that you do!
This dude has intentions of a three year old and abilities of a scientist.
@ashy goofball
@Lokibirdie Sure, says the person with a goofy ass username, are you really defending an unfunny overused joke? That’s funny.
And the patients of an immortal man
Scientist? You must be a comedian.
more like a -3 yo
i enjoy watching Nile red more than i enjoy eating after 2 days Edit: after i watched 23 videos of Nile red i became the top in chemistry class
Idk why but when he said "the machine sounded like it was dying" and "it looks like the saddest and most pathetic cotton candy" I died laughing 😂
I love how he pauses at 1:24 to let the soup fart
Miss your videos, hope you're able to come out with something new soon! Thanks for all you do!
I love how every step is explained in the tone of someone trying to explain the long chain of events that led to the backyard shed burning down.
It's the voice of a man explaining to his insurance assessor why the claim should definitely get paid out 😂
THATS what his voice sounds like
I was trying to put my finger on it for so long
Sounds a lot like Mo Rocca to me.
This.
@NoelFortune well yeah he’s doing an experiment
Thanks, Nilered. So much better than that time I fed my niece pink crayola coloured cotton balls. You literally made a peanut brittle cotton candy.
You said it was the saddest looking cotton candy, but that's the most beautiful cotton candy I have ever seen in my life
Damn chemistry is crazy lmao
just a quick question, what are the dark little strings in the cotton when it was dissolved into the acid?
I almost always hold my breath when NileRed is about to taste something he made...
Right? We just gotta trust that he knows what he’s doin and i mean the man’s alive it’s hard to doubt him
Saying "I want to make hopefully edible candy" and "so I decided to use acid" in the same context is something I never thought I'd hear.
there is literally acid in everything you eat
@NitroRBX Why would bots target you? It happens to everybody. Like I always run into bots that have music they want to show. So you’re not alone with this one buddy.
@Dunkin biscuits hes making a joke about acid and edibles which are both drugs
@IronIsKing rly? I didn’t think he was making a reference to drugs but fair enough
great idea
Every step he passes is a huge amount of knowledge
Hats off to his patience man❤️
I have a question for you Nile. You said at the beginning that you could technically do the same with clothing, would the process still work the same if it had polyester mixed with cotton?
Crazy brother, you did really great there, cant believe you actually made cotton cotton candy 😮
"The Canadian Government kept seizing packages and holding them for months."
He's definitely on a watch list, if he wasn't already.
@Burdie From Hell videos like "dissolving chicken in acid".... 🤔
@jamesruth100 it's because it's an international purchase from a likely sketchy supplier, nothing much to do with him considering his background and lack of criminal history, plus occupation.
I love how so many people take it for granted that they live in a 'free' country and then casually talk about 'watch lists' and government surveillance like they're not glaring examples of authoritarianism.
im pretty sure getting numeber 1 on the watchlist his is goal thats why he is a chemsist
Cody'slab had a visit from the FBI. The funny thing was that they let him keep his yellowcake uranium.
This was so much fun! You are a wizard!!
I instantly started chewing on the T-shirt i was wearing. (It's 100% cotton)
It actually tasted pretty sweet 😏
Imagine spending more than a year for a project that got a sad and pathetic cotton candy at the end 😂 NileRed can do anything
Bro i was so invested like i am in every video of yours, i was so happy when you made it and concerned when it seemed not to. I think i am in love lol 😂
