Many regard the Trust to be his greatest achievement. “It was like a calling,” his son Peter says. “I think he got good heart,” Dawa, an ex-student of the Khumjung school states. From schools to hospitals to providing fresh water, Hilary’s benevolence knew no bounds. His son Peter and his stepmother, Lady June, the custodian of Sir Hilary’s Trust, differ in the ways in which they believe they can preserve his legacy. Nevertheless, the name of the first man to endure one of the toughest physical challenges known to man will echo around the Himalayan foothills ad infitnitum.
