That said, I looked at the breaker box in my apartment now and discovered that the breaker for the dryer is 60 amps and the breaker for the range is 100 amps. So maybe there are higher standards these days.
@kugeltmg of course depends on the size of the air conditioning unit and by extension of the area being serviced by the unit, but no. The heating element or the heat pump providing the cooling draws only a fraction of that kind of power. The fans creating the circulation of air draw a fraction of those two.

Mad Scientist Ebay. Not available on this dimension's Internet.
Unfortunately we're not allowed to have fun any more, but back in the day (the 90s or so) you could just ask the local power company nicely and they'd give you some decommissioned transformers or let you pick though their dumpster. The transformers are full of oil and cost a bunch of money to recycle (they used to be filled with cancer juice, look up PCBs). Same for the dumpsters, most of the stuff had no scrap value and they had to pay to get rid of it. Old utility poles, crossarms, conduit, so much good stuff.
surplus power line transformers can also be used for neon tube processing... although the neon plant i built has a 20kV Bombarding Transformer specifically designed to be used for neon processing.

Is this a Day of the Tentacle reference.. lol
@@MOSMASTERING its a reference to the invention of the modern microwave oven. It was invented to defrost hamsters without burning or killing them. Basically some scientists were freezing hamsters solid to research what would happen to living things when frozen and if we could preserve people without killing them through cryo, and heating them up with. hot metal rod wasnt cutting it, so one scientist built a faraday cage, stuck a magnetron, and defrosted the hamsters that way. Thus, the microwave oven was born.

@@recon_laksh742Well it can "melt" tungsten but still seeing other metals to just disappear within seconds is still terrifying
Microwaves do not directly apply heat to the surface of food. Instead, they cause asymmetric molecules to flip back and forth as the wave passes through them. We exploit this to vibrate water which is asymmetric do to the tug of the hydrogen atoms on each other. This excites the water into steam, cooking without burning and without all the delicious flavors that caramelization achieves. Non-conductive symmetric molecules are oblivious to what's going on, even in this legendary oven.

One of my most memorable foolishness was the day on our farm when my brother and I took old brown quart-size CLOROX bottles with screw-on caps and filled them with gas
A large brush pile with a bolder at the center of the fire.
It wasn't the reaction when a bottle hit the rock, and gas flew everywhere. Of course, that was fun. But that's not the memorable part. We got the bottles at a spot on the stone fence at the backfield. I grabbed a clear glass 750 ml with a screw cap. Only half full, I missed the rock, and the bottle was perched above the flames on some branches. They generally crack and spill at times like this, but this time it stayed intact. Uncertain, we put space between us. A tight torch-like flame started shooting out the cap. It was a weathered aluminum cap that must have had a tiny hole in the cap. When the torch was three to four feet up looking like a cutting torch. The excitement started when the gasoline started to boil. That was the coolest thing to watch. How often in your lifetime could one catch such a sight. I ran to the house to get my pellet gun. I pumped that over 30 times as I ran back. It was a rolling boil when I took aim. It was beautiful. Loud. Bright flash boom with our own little mushroom-forming overhead. We felt the heat on that one.
Nothing could top that on that day. I just remembered the price of gas then. I always jumped on the tractor to make a gas run so Dad would not blow a gasket, wondering where the gas went. Gas was $0.38 a gallon. That was high cause it was a small station out in the country. $0.34 in the village.
Our best times were yet to come. Dad was heading to the west coast, San Diego to head out to Vietnam.l for 2 years. He was always in submarines, but this last tour was on a tin can destroyer; he was a Corpsman. Never boots on the ground. He hated that I was in Afghanistan, always telling lies about being in Korea, and it was harder. I told him, I don't play that game, Dad. WHAT GAME? I'd say comparing dick sizes.
He did it. He built the macrowave.

I haven’t seen a comment like this other than you. I COMPLETELY AGREE IT WAS AWESOME‼️
As microwaves are reflected off the inner metal walls of the appliance, their wave patterns cross each other such that the peaks in the waves tend to fill in the space between peaks of other waves, this creates a more uniform field of peaked energy. Regular microwaves don't do this nearly as effectively because they're 1KW and not 20KW. If I'm speculating, I would say microwave ovens are designed with specific interior dimensions in order to maximize the effectiveness of this phenomina.
As a videographer, i just gotta say, the choice of exposure settings for all these extreme situations is mad impressive, good sense of scale of the light and it looks awesome. such a good job!
