Rare Electric Blue Clouds Observed by NASA Balloon

NASA Goddard - 2018-09-20

On the cusp of our atmosphere live a thin group of seasonal electric blue clouds. Forming fifty miles above the poles in summer, these clouds are known as noctilucent clouds or polar mesospheric clouds — PMCs. A recent NASA long-duration balloon mission observed these clouds over the course of five days at their home in the mesosphere. The resulting photos, which scientists have just begun to analyze, will help us better understand turbulence in the atmosphere, as well as in oceans, lakes, and other planetary atmospheres, and may even improve weather forecasting.

Keith Durant - 2018-09-20

Hold it...is this turbulence being labeled "gravity waves" an atmospheric displacement of air or is this what I now know to be gravity waves as detected by LIGO

Master Therion - 2018-09-20

LIGO detected gravitational waves, gravity waves are different. IKR, poorly named and easy to confuse the two ^_^

Keith Durant - 2018-09-20

Ty I couldn't see how they could be the same...but the damn name...ahhh

Mastershooter 63 - 2018-09-20

These are gravity waves those created by the collision of 2 black holes or 2 neutron stars are called gravitational waves

Tantiwa Hopak - 2018-09-21

What the hell is now gravity waves. Also I thought gravitational waves are created by every body that's in motion

Kelly Sami - 2018-09-20

I know we have seen this type of thing before when I've been in a plane at about 35,000ft looking down on to our surface!

Ice crystals again?!? Them ice crystals seem to cause a large array of different optical phenomenon... hmm

Larry Whittington - 2018-09-27

Expanding:☝️😃 you mentioned ice crystals
My 1'st thought 🤔
I share what insight I've
Learned The daunting & if I may say so myself the faith in reaching below our cameras in the icy ❄️ depths An sea of a moon of Jupiter named Europa astrophysicist Neil Degrasse Tyson shared how scientists do just that
Actually being tested
An also working for divers present day on earth. Details of performance would be
Set for a deep space mission even an analysis soon as we have met MARS habitable criteria. Example:1996 Tom Rivellini we can do it.
The crystals if I might add does your readings
Suggest any By calculus analysis due to fire An volcanoes even earthquakes billow up sand even bluefish fine shards of
Micro active yet visible glass fragments as fine as dust example: heat on desert surface appears as a lake from the distance they are heat waves indeed
☝️🤔 however I'm curious for the same conformation in comparison
A great topic in micro Geology in matching atmospheric dust entering into our atmosphere as we compare to fragments of micro meteoroids & meteors.
Sincerely
Godspeed on the find

wow NASA used the word 'Electric'

Bloon? Balloon.

Jam Bos - 2018-11-01

Seriously, this is blatantly inaccurate information, sorry I mean disinformation.

Troma - 2018-11-14

So where did your get your PhD at?

This is Lotoya - 2019-06-18

Blue clouds are forming every day in my country and I can't seem to get why and also when it rains the sky turns into an almost black colour in the middle of day also one side of the sky is dark and the other is veryyyyy bright and to tell you this our country is very bright because were in the tropical zone and summer coming soon so its about to be very hot. The waves have also been occurring for about three months now... is this a problem even though it looks very beautiful.

This is interesting I'm intrigued whether not
The timing An place
Of our most recent close encounters with
Asteroids flicker with
Earth's atmosphere
Because like a candle
By a window 🕯💨🌫
Catches drafts it's possible in a way because light could be an indication nevertheless it's beautiful

P.S. the only thing relating "gravity waves" to gravity is the word gravity in their contrived terminology. The effect is not caused by actual gravity as she explained but by air masses sliding up and over mountains. This is just as gravity-related as the ability of my farts to spread to the opposite corner of the room.

Eau Kangen - 2018-11-27

I live in the Caribbean, a couple of days ago, I saw a "blue" cloud in the sky. It was not even high in the sky. I was amazed. I had no idea this existed. I am 51 years old and it's the first time I witness it. I am wondering what it is doing at the "equator"?

Jam Bos - 2018-11-01

Oh yeah air masses going over mountains or massive storms are the most logical explanation for the wavy shape of the ice crystals formations. Totally. I would never think that instruments like HAARP in Alaska would be capable of producing such patterns. It's too conspiratorial to switch on a few brain cells and connect terms like High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program with wavy patterns of charged particles in the Ionosphere.

Samso Nite - 2018-09-23

gravity waves... yeah sure... you can believe in santa too :D

Erika Ann - 2018-10-01

I think turbulence is used as a descriptor not an actual event, if that makes sense. The clouds look turbulent might have been a more proper. Idk. This is beautiful to my senses and I’m excited to learn more about these cool blue waves ... 💙🦋💠

Obsidian- Radio - 2018-09-21

Sounds like another beautiful observation of the Electric Universe! :-)

ocso639 - 2019-05-08

7 months late but they mean as in the color, not the lightning bolts you see.

P J - 2018-09-21

Guys, electric doesn't mean the phenomenon is actually electromagnetic. NASA is using it as a term of phrase to describe the look of the clouds. These clouds are often blue and wispy, so people usually describe them as electric visually NOT scientifically. Seriously chill with the crackpot "dis da electric universe comments".

Barış Purut - 2018-09-22

Moreover: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_blue_(color)

Tim Williams - 2018-09-25

Your the crackpot P J for worshiping babylon science. The hieroglyphs have already been deciphered proving the cosmos is fundamentally ELECTRIC. No going back, just a matter of time till the message creeps out.

Imminent - 2018-11-01

@Tim Williams Elect - Trick... electric

lillian ballard - 2018-09-21

Well,as I understand it, our magnetic field is low, right now, so maybe gravity is compensating for that.I know that I am slow, tired in a way,and lethargic. Even T isn"t bothering me, now. Naaaaa,I lied. Yes but I have seen a softening in him.for about 4 minutes.

Spaghetti Monster - 2018-09-21

wait what? gravity waves? i understand turbulence more than gravity waves. What is causing the gravity waves? Wouldnt these clouds be more interesting to study the effects of gravity waves rather than the turbulence effects? Can we have a follow up explaining the cause and effects of the gravity waves as they interact with these electric blue clouds please?

OrphanPaper - 2018-09-21

M Faraday predicted such things saying: (paraphrased ) "the great mass of air as a 'diamagnetic' would influence &or be influenced by the magnetic field " and so influenced by solar charge distribution and causing charge depletion(energy conversion) creating earth as a negative node in the sun earth cathode anode configuration,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the electric universe (and i do not agree with all aspects of the theory ) is proving to be an accurate model , considering M Farady stated such a thing, I am perplexed its was discarded for other less provable models for so long and championed by so few not discounting Newtons geometry the low mass 'at that altitude 'dose bring gravity wave into question raising the electric magnetic diamagnetic interplay

Mourad 90 - 2018-09-23

I wonder why NASA waste so much time and money to do experiments ! They should post any kind of a YouTube video, then read the comment section, because all people here are scientists but only bad luck led them to be only contributors and commentators in a virtual world ! sad !

Ivan Ilyich - 2018-09-26

Magnus Kalá your comment lacks coherence

Mourad 90 - 2018-09-26

Ivan Ilyich
You seem to be one of those unlucky scientists who comment only on YouTube videos ! sad !

Ivan Ilyich - 2018-09-26

Magnus Kalá Perhaps English isn’t your first language, so I didn’t mean for that comment to be aggressive. Regardless, your Trumpian rhetoric is not encouraging.

Einstein proved the electric universe one hundred times before NASA even went to the Moon.

0010110 - 2018-09-20

Our electric universe is amazing! NASA will be finding out more about it soon!

Fortis Invictus - 2018-09-22

What is in the center of the North Pole that NASA is always hiding on photos and videos with black circle?

Lan G - 2018-09-20

Einstein predicted these gravitational waves. He said they were fake news and that the Universe is electric

Lan G - 2018-09-21

If it looks like a wave and moves like a wave, it's a wave. Einstein didn't say there 2 types of waves, he said there was only one type and it's made of electricity.

Lan G - 2018-09-21

You're right. Otherwise we wouldn't feel an electric shock. It would just bounce off us.

lillian ballard - 2018-09-21

Our bodies are electric too.

lillian ballard - 2018-09-21

@15firekid I wish our language had more words. There are, now, I noticed, one word has too many meanings. Make up a new ome, like gravcol or colgrav for gravitational collider.

Lan G - 2018-09-21

Yes. That's how we are able to move. Our cells are electric too and grow and regenerate from the electricity from the food we eat, that is also made of electricity.

David Reese - 2018-09-20

Global Cooling. Our Star is heading into the Eddie Minimum... We are going to have a very cold winter 2018... You have the evidence...

Kelly Sami - 2018-09-20

What ever are they new huh?? No sadly this is untrue ...so what's causing the gravitational waves huh...dnt think anyone is going to fess up in this case!! 🤔🤔

Cesar Cueto - 2018-09-21

Fess up to causing the waves? Are you expecting some wizard is causing them or a mad scientist? How could anyone cause them to be?

Kelly Sami - 2018-09-21

@Cesar Cueto Admit to trying hide the cause and effects!
Fess up to knowing why the sky is changing!

Cesar Cueto - 2018-09-21

@Kelly Sami you sound very cynical

Kelly Sami - 2018-09-21

Btw Cause this is a NASA released video... I doubt we will ever be told why this phenomena along side other massive significant other changes that are currently occurring and have not been witnessed and recorded before in our technological age!

NASA know the cause of these events.
Maybe check out the white house official space weather bill.
Just before Obamas departure, I thought it had significant importance at the time.

As much as I do not stand on the side of this current presidential leader in power he has voiced serious concerns over the lack of discourse between Nasa and the government.

People need to know the truth!

Kelly Sami - 2018-09-21

@Cesar Cueto Not on my part how is being honest cynical.
Is cynical to not be honest with the world though!
