Scoops - 2021-07-10

Remember that for every negative comment you get there was probably 100s of us who watched, enjoyed and simply didn't comment. The mean ones are always the loudest. All the best!

Chri Lin - 2022-06-02

@Real Science laugh, feel sorry for them carrying hate not joy, or forget them all together no use wasting energy on things/people you can't help.

TrumanHW - 2022-06-15

@Real Science I just love that DEI requisites force editing a comment like "generations of smart people" to be timed w certain POCs (so subtle, I almost didn't notice the brain washing ). The data [is] both good & interesting, & the narration + writing good. But participating in the woke agenda's delusion doesn't go unnoticed. And, participation at any level justifies greater scrutiny of all other claims for potential contamination.

Nikki P - 2022-08-11

Denying evolution is not a mean comment.

Tommaso Bolondi - 2022-08-15

True, I love this videos

Detlef Gerundung - 2022-08-20

Im not sure if I remember this right, but in some song I heard "the loudest voice is rarely the one to follow".

Vamsi - 2021-07-10

After all, the weirdest it can get is, being allergic to allergy medication.

Adam Greene - 2022-06-19

@Seraphina it's bizarre how everyone ignored you although you're absolutely correct, isn't it? I was about to say something similar.

Jan Koci - 2022-07-05

I've seen way more absurd than that! I remember story about a girl allergic to a certain part of reproduction. You really can't go more absurd than that, biologically speaking - evolution ain't nothing without reproduction!

Limi V - 2022-07-06

@Jan Koci Are you saying that being infertile is absurd?

Jan Koci - 2022-07-06

@Limi V this was not just infertility, this was an allergy to fertility! And yes, that is absurd

Trip - 2022-08-05

@Chri Lin there is a girl on tiktok with aquagenic urticaria who documents her experiences, and when she showers she spends hours writhing in pain on her bed.... she is also allergic to her own sweat and tears. i wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy

Rohit Pant - 2021-07-10

Good job bringing this topic to light. I've read enough BS on Facebook regarding allergies & the crazier treatments prescribed there. This video needs to go viral for everyone to get the basics.
Also, amazing revision on how it's the histamines that get released post-allergies. The animation really cemented it for me.

Rick Kwitkoski - 2021-07-12

@Rohit Pant Get your REAL info off of FB! It is a good place to engage in discussion but not so much for any REAL info! I subscribe to several groups that are there for SCIENCE and not bullshit. There is good stuff on FB but you really have to sift through the crap too. THAT can get very tiring.

metamorphicorder - 2021-07-13

I get so tired of those click aggregator posts on FB.
They are so well crafted to reel in the stupids that it pisses me off.
Theres one i used to see all the time about a homespun mosquito repellent that always got me mad.
It was a recipie for this completely obviously bunk mixture of household common chemicals to spray around the yard to repell mosquitos.
It had a list of things to mix together and in the instructions it said "the stronger you make the mix, the better it works"
Guys thats not how mixtures work. Either you mix in one proportion or a different one. You cant give a complex list of ingredients and just say vaguely mix it "stronger"! Theres math involved. Concentration is a thing.
It further went on to say that the person sharing the recipie sprayed this around their yard and sits outside in their underware in the late evening and doesnt get bit once.
Such homespun religiosity. It hurts.
Theres another one about how bad pork is. Starts with " a pig is a real garbage gut!" Then goes on to list a buch of totally bullshit about eating pork.
Another one is a list of bullshit involving a mixture of honey, water and cinnamon.
It was basically a list of conditions that could (actually couldn't) be treated by some mixture of water honey and cinnamon, and sometimes lemon juice.
The basic idea was taking this at different times of day in different ratios to treat different conditions. Its just click aggregators for stupid people who like to think they stuck it to the man by not going to the doctor or buying some off or that they will live a few years longer by not eating bacon.

Nate Williams - 2022-06-21

@metamorphicorder your algorithm is terrible. My Facebook is filled with my Liberian family members and booty shaking . You can only blame yourself for your algorithm lol

metamorphicorder - 2022-06-21

@Nate Williams lol

The Owl - 2022-07-28

You get info from Facebook …

Harry Buttery - 2021-07-10

I don't think mice get anywhere near enough credit for what we put them through...

Psilocybe - 2022-08-02

@Fuchsia Frogger I hope in Russia, they have a statue for the two tortoisses who flew around the moon AND survived the crashlanding on earth, only to be dissected after. Would you ever have thought, tortoisses are the highest flying animals to this day?

Undying Faith - 2022-08-07

I’m sure you would love to be eaten, buddy, so go outside in the real world and let it eat you up

Psilocybe - 2022-08-07

@Undying Faith I have to say, your says name totally the opposite of what you just said. What is the real world nowadays anyway? First thing outside we encounter is a highway. Its more deadly to animals here than the supposed food chain. If I stand outside, animals will not attack me because when they do they will find themselves dead. Not because of food but for revenge and people will not stop until they get what they want. Totally nuts. Other animals are very smart and especially, they dont want to die. After possibly thousands or even millions of years of rage killing, every animal on earth knows not to attack us and must be either very hungry or desperate to attack us. That IS the real world. I dont have to like it though.

Lazar Mirela - 2022-08-25

Shhh 🤫, don't tell PETA

Mimi Mimi - 2022-08-25

they are paying for the black plague.

Ryan Atkinson - 2021-07-10

This and Real Engineering's content is always amazing and insightful. There are only a few channels that captivate me this much. Props to you and Brian!

Lone Starr - 2021-07-11

I could recommend a few more if you like.

Joshua Osei - 2021-07-11

@Lone Starr I'd appreciate the recommendations too

Lone Starr - 2021-07-11

@Joshua Osei Ok, let's see.
I'll start with the more popular ones. I realize you might already know them but it would be 'irresponsible' to leave them out (if you don't know one of these, check it out instantly!). Those are:
Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell
Veritasium
Vsauce
It's Okay To Be Smart
LEMMiNO
Tom Scott
CGP Grey
These channels cover a pretty broad range of topics. I have some more specific ones which I like very much. First, of course, the PBS channels, like
PBS Eons about the geologic and evolutionary history of the Earth
PBS Space Time about space and physics (pretty advanced stuff)
PBS Terra
Since I'm quite fond of astrophysics and alike, I got some more channels about that:
Astrum
Isaac Arthur about futurism and what ideas from science fiction might be realistic in one way or another
Anton Petrov more like space news, new video almost every day
SEA (great visuals!)
And some more about physics, biology and alike:
minutephysics
MinuteEarth
DoS - Domain of Science
Bizarre Beasts
Up and Atom (recommended for kids because of very clear explanations and demonstrations, same goes for Vsauce)
And about technology and engineering:
Mustard (great visuals!)
Verge Science
FutureNow
Undecided with Matt Ferrell
B1M the definitive channel for construction
Tomorrow's Build from the same dude, but focused on future tech in construction
Miscellaneous:
3Blue1Brown the single best channel about math
Wendover Productions about logistics and how certain complex systems work, like the aviation industry (his other channel Half as Interesting is hilarious)
Answer in Progress ludicrously sympathetic team of students fooling around to try and figure things out
Atlas Pro geography, but pretty interesting
Risen Africa geography, politics, and future of Africa
Economics Explained (it's in the name)
Rare Earth traveling the world finding stories you'll probably never hear of anywhere else
Cogito about cultures
NativLang about linguistics

(Yes, I have various interests)

Joshua Osei - 2021-07-11

@Lone Starr Whilst I did know most of these, a few I haven't heard of, so I'll be checking them out. Thanks :)

Manuel Alfaro - 2021-07-10

I really liked the way this explanation was: showing the "bad guy" inside of your body is in fact the good guy

Aljaž - 2021-07-13

@I’m Always Right 1. for most of the history "working on understanding" was banned, even in modern history you had informal bans on research on sexual behaviour and heart 2. which is part of a reason why we discovered entire picture of clitoris (google clitoris 3D) only after the entire human genome was sequenced, how could you miss that one if you werent looking for it, in fact, most of human research was until recently done on animals like dogs 3. the entire species is quite generous, half of it was excluded and the other half mostly doesnt have money or time for it 4. you dont need to know everything to make an argument on what you do know, there is whole lot of extremly bad designs in human body, those that are limited to humans specificaly, like a spine, liver orientation and muscle placement in hands (some of them even mentioned in this video) to those that are just done plain better in other animals, like blood for the eye, brains of marine mammals, all genetic diseases in general (given they code the body, they are the same thing, but wouldnt include cancer from pollution or viruses). Using your argument sounds more like "it is ok to make an argument if you are ignorant of a human body", because or you can make "any" argument (given what you know) or "none" at all (given what you dont). Consistency. Go after content, not arguments themselves, at least if they arent done poorly, otherwise you are probably a dogmatic thinker, which is ... here a good video on dogmas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdTZBVlg3nI Or even worse, you arent bothered with my arguments but with my feelings, which would be ... WTF xD? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-Chi03DwsA This link has a part where they are dissapointed but still love content for good parts, learn from it x)

I’m Always Right - 2021-07-13

@Aljaž @Aljaž Božičko some of that was hard to read but i get what ur saying. I agree with points made in 1 and 2 (didn't know about the clitoris pictures). The 3rd point you made idk what your argument was. Your 4th point is what i was refering to earlier. Calling it "fuck up" because we dont know their use (or they do nothing NOW, but have been useful some time ago).
The first vid you sent started using quotes from religions texts with no context 1 min in and that was clear indication this was a biased view (which it should be cuz its his yt vid). So the video became unreliable because his views triumphed the context of what hes arguing against. I stopped watching after 10 min when he started using human rationale for why "divine beings" decision making are unreliable and that they are nothing but "lip service". The second vid is 50 min and itss a feminist podcast BEST BELIEVE i clicked off that quick times lol.

Dodo Pson - 2021-07-25

@Aljaž if you buy a chair, saw off a leg, will you blame the manufacturer for a wobbly chair?
Looking at our current situation and blaming the designer is like that. The amount of polution and junk we shove in our bodies it's a surprise we aren't all malfunctioning more.

sam madison - 2021-08-29

Explaining allergies is the simplest, most obvious truth ever... being clean. Privileged soaped hands in vacuumed 20th century hypo-sanitized homes. People who play and live outside get less allergies. Obviously. Almost all people get over allergies if they don't shy from them. But our modernized world teaches us to avoid unpleasantries and provides us a means to do so with ridiculous pretention. We're getting more allergenic because we reduce, suppress and protect our interactivity of things outside more.. bacteria, molds, pollens are just a few.. it's certainly not just worms.

Shoonam - 2022-01-13

@BJCMXY's Lists & Commentary This describes me well. I have asperger 's.

Gorgonite - 2021-07-10

This was another great video. You are seriously the best YouTuber in my opinion. When one your videos comes out, I know I'm about to get an in depth look at an interesting topic. Keep up the great work.

Milad Elemental - 2021-07-10

Agree on everything you said!👌

Mike Jones - 2021-07-12

I feel the same way, then I often explain topics I learned from the videos to my friends or family and they are often intrigued as well. The topics are often interesting and in-depth, which I highly enjoy.

pjhoody - 2022-06-01

she's amazing. just discovered this channel recently and it's been nothing short of 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Gorgonite - 2022-06-01

@pjhoody then check out Real Engineering channel too.

pjhoody - 2022-06-01

@Gorgonite i will - thanks!

LivingNihilism - 2021-07-10

I learned so much in a very short amount of time. I probably wont be able to remember details like specific names of the parasites or the cells, but I will now forever know how allergies work. Thank you.

Ailabrida Rath - 2021-07-10

Dude you are so great at explaining those concepts. I feel much satisfaction after learning that explanation

TK UA - 2021-07-11

“It’s MA’AM”

Sture Akker - 2021-07-12

@TK UA dude is a gender neutral term

Psilocybe - 2022-08-02

Dude actually means: man of fashion. A man that cares alot about his physical image. It used to be a word for gay or metrosexual guys but thats because those guys tend to voice/show their care for fashion while other guys dont want to be assosiated with women and/or gay and therefore look flatout messy/uncaring.

Anyways: while not meaning what most people think it means, its from histories perspective an inherently gendered word.

Doesnt however means it has to stay that way. We give meaning to words and without us they are meaningless nor even existent. One thing people can do is own the word and give it their own meaning.

Supahfly uk - 2021-07-10

I love your American accent it's relaxing, thank you for educating the world, and sharing your findings with us all. I know how long it takes to make a video and how much effort never mind the research too.

Brody - 2021-12-17

Wow, the narrator has such a soothing voice, with great clarity and enunciation. Coupled with in depth research and excellent presentation too. I watched the entire video and was delighted to hear new information on the topic of allergies. Usually I don't leave comments, but seeing the negative feedback at the end pushed me to write this. I have a terrible, grating voice that many people despise, and so I was personally offended to see them hating on someone who sounds perfectly normal. Ignore them, keep making great videos.

Mike Young - 2021-07-14

I had a scratch test done when I was 5 back in the '60's and was allergic to over 200 things. Through my teen years, my sinuses would close completely during certain times of the year with no meds available. Then in adulthood, the allergies lessened to just a mild annoyance. Now past 60 they have come back with a vengeance but at least we have meds for it because without the meds the allergies are overwhelming. I enjoyed the video.

Shane Hungerford - 2021-07-14

Thank you for this, ignore the ones that ignore science. You dedicated a highly applaudable amount of time to research, write, animate, and produce this video. All because you wanted too and felt that others would be curious about the same thing, I definitely was. So thanks for devoting that time and please keep it up so all of us can learn more!

David Schaftenaar - 2021-07-13

You are one of the few on YouTube who still teaches me things I didn't already know :) Thank you so much!
I've been on antihistamines for the last sixteen years - no idea what I'm allergic to, but its literally everywhere it seems xD ... So I'm especially happy you decided to shine your light onto this particular topic.

Robert Wayne - 2021-07-10

Keep banging away! Your videos, and the information within, make a difference. Learning dry topics can be boring but you make it interesting. That takes skill. Keep at it. I'm a fan!

TK UA - 2021-07-11

She’s too nerdy to keep banging away

A UB - 2021-07-10

Thanks for this amazing video, I've been following you and real engineering since the beginning, it's been an awesome adventure. This video in particular feels like you just read my mind.

Wolfy262 - 2021-07-12

As one who experiences hay fever, this was a refreshing new perspective on why it happens and why, while frustrating, it's part of a bigger picture and more important system. Thank You!

BgraCoskn - 2021-07-10

I was a fan of this channel since Real Engineering announced that it was happening and I have not been once disappointed with the content. Keep up the amazing work Stephanie, as they say haters gonna hate!

TK UA - 2021-07-11

Not much of haters out there, all those commenters said they liked the video they just didn’t think she had a good voice for narration. Don’t think anyone hates her

IstasPumaNevada - 2021-07-13

@TK UA You obviously didn't read all the comments shown; there were at least three anti-evolution comments and one general anti-science comment.
And "haters gonna hate" doesn't always mean literal hate. It encompasses negativity of all kinds, including passive-aggressive.
Unless you've had a public platform with a big following, you can't really understand the toxic levels comments can get to. And it's worse when you're a female because of general systemic sexism, and disturbingly-obsessive misogynistic trolls online whose only purpose in life seems to be to make any prominent woman miserable.

copperheadroad567 - 2021-07-10

I really appreciate how your content is based on studies and how you bring that to the forefront.

nygreenguy - 2021-07-26

Loved the video! I was reading about the shellfish allergy thing and the proteins that make up the exoskeleton of insects and the cell walls of fungi are similar which can explain why people have some shellfish allergies.

Mohamed Abdikarim - 2021-07-11

It really breaks my heart when I see negative comments to a such a informative video, go girl you are delivering much needed information to the masses.

Pam Spray - 2021-09-05

To add to the discussion of strange allergens, I'm allergic to abrupt temperature changes. I'm not sure why, and it could be genetic or a side effect of some other condition. But my reaction is immediate and vicious, often covering my entire body(and sometimes the inside of my throat) in hives. It's not my only allergen, I also have more typical ones like dust, cat saliva, oak mold, and others. But it's worth discussing because while it is an allergic response, I am unsure if there could or would be a potential evolutionary reason for such a reaction.

Isabelle Hall - 2021-10-06

As a biology student, i really appreciate the work and time you put in these videos. They are amazing and i always learn something new or get more info about something i heard in class. Watching educational videos helps me remember information better than reading blocks of text. Thank you!!

Blue - 2021-07-11

I'm a super nerd, and I like to find flaws in these kind of videos... but you totally did a fantastic job. I wouldn't say that if I didn't mean it. Keep making more! You're doing great!!!

Amber Lancaster - 2022-10-02

I found this very interesting! I struggle with allergies and have often wondered “what’s the toxin”. I love to be outside and in the dirt gardening… not a huge fan of the aftermath if I don’t cover up. This makes me feel a bit better about needing to cover my skin to protect from toxins.

Anita4RDH Newbill - 2021-07-11

This is wonderful information!! I am 78 years old and have been allergic to lots of things all my life, tho thankfully not to the point of death, just eczema and sneezing & eye-reactions. As a result, I’ve kept up with the research all through the years. This is the most amazing presentation I’ve ever seen! Thank you!! 👍🏻❤️❤️❤️

David - 2021-07-20

I very much appreciate that you supplied references. Online science conversations should always have references. Keep up the good work!

Milan Meiland - 2021-07-15

Amazing informative video!
I’ve never thought about allergies this way.
I really like the Toxin theory, it makes sense that after all those years of evolution something must have gone “wrong”.

lascivious paine - 2021-08-03

This channel is so wholesome it’s heartwarming to watch your videos first thing in the morning. In addition to being educational, they’re put together quite well. ^__^

Rn Kn - 2021-07-12

Thank-you for those traumatizing visuals. I’ll forget that never. I read recently that active immune responses is a legacy of those with the relevant Neanderthal genes. Apparently these hominids had better immune systems than us, but sometimes these systems can respond too aggressively. I wonder if autoimmune disorders share the same profile as allergies? And if not, why would someone’s own immune system attack them even without pollen?

Ethan Norton - 2021-07-10

Great video! I have one of the largest assortments of allergies ever. Including many food and environmental, so this really hit home for me. My only question is how does any of this certain to different egg allergies. Many different people react differently to them. Wether it's if eggs are baked into goods or cooked on its own, only the yolk or only the white or both. I can't eat eggs in any form but my mom can only not eat egg whites that aren't in baked goods. Just curious how this can be explained.

Heather - 2021-08-02

So fascinating! I can't wait to share this info with my family that is also struggling with this painful allergy season. I did feel bad for the mice but such is science.

Carla Moore - 2021-12-14

The weirdest thing I've experienced is as a child. I was allergic to everything and I was an asthmatic child. However, as I begin to age things that I was allergic to changed and I could all of a sudden tolerate them and not get sick. My question is as we continue to evolve are those things that would have made us sick changing they'd have to be?

SmokeJam - 2022-08-22

After I know how difficult it is to learn the immune system and how much a medic student has to study to remember all the details, I have a lot of respect for you being able to condense it down into a short 15 min video while not just simply skimming over important facts. Well done video!
The only thing left for me to ask: Are there any studies out there that ask why people who have allergies often tend to get even more, a lot of the times not even connected or crossed ones, but completely random new ones. E.g. I started with a Penicillin allergy, added a peanut allergy on top of that and now I am reacting to almost any kind of nuts and certain drugs like Amoxicillin and Penicillin.

Seracila - 2021-07-13

The reaction against learned enemies sounds great but what about when you get first exposure allergies? That's what's always bothered me in most theories. I got anafylaksia (and in english?) from the first time I tried coconut and when I got exposed to shrimp, so there was no possible way for my immunosystem to have previous learning experiences on these proteins.

Katie Kat - 2021-07-11

This was a very well put together video. She did a good job at explaining how part of the immune system works when it comes to allergies. She also did a great job at explaining the different theories of why we have allergies and why certain reasons for allergies were not the reason for them. While I have some background knowledge on how our immune system works, I can still see how well of a job she did breaking it down for people who didn't have a basic knowledge. I guess what I am saying is that I think she did a very good job at covering this topic and gave her audience at least some new aspects of allergy knowledge and a better understanding on what current scientists and medical researchers are thinking at this point.

shenjw12000 - 2021-07-10

What an amazing video! I love it! I am allergic to tree pollens, ragweed, pet dander. I used to hate my body for making me sick every allergy season. Now that you explain it, I don't hate it as much. Thank you!

Hayden Reynolds - 2022-06-04

I just found your vids recently and have been binging! They're truly next-level engaging and informative. In a sea of "infotaining" YouTube, you stand out in quality and style.

Yr5 - 2021-07-16

This is really well done and now I see allergies in a different light. Thank you

Tyrantulus DeCroix - 2021-07-13

No allergies. I always found it hard to relate. I enjoyed the presentation. Thank you for the science.

Travis Myers - 2021-07-14

That was an amazing video. I have heard may of these theories. And I can attest to the increase of allergies as I work in the Allergy collection industry. Every year orders get bigger. It's almost to much to keep up with.

M R K - 2021-07-14

I really appreciate this explanation and the video, but as someone who has been hospitalized twice for my allergy to dairy (which is a very difficult allergy to avoid), I don't think any explanation will convince me not to think that allergies are nothing but bad.

Florestan Trément - 2021-07-14

I found another explanation for allergies to add to these ideas that allowed me to get rid of most of the ones I suffered from.
I treated them the very same way I treated my phobias, both with great success.
I believe some allergies have the very same source as phobias do: mistake some element of the environment as the cause for a traumatic event and then defending against that element.
Getting rid of it is hard, but possible with some help: Check the first thought that comes to me when I ask myself where this comes from. I mean the first, always the first, only the first, which is a lot harder than it sounds. Then explore that thought/feeling until you get to an event or series of events. Then face whatever emotions are linked to it, identify the actors of the events and their roles, all of them. And that's it. Seems simple, but it took me years to get where I'm now.
It matches a bit of the theory about defending against toxic stuff and whatever is associated with it. Except when the source is emotional, you can actually get to find where the real toxicity comes from and get rid of the false toxic material.

Giu Alonso - 2021-07-12

This is so interesting! Thank you for researching and sharing. This is my first video here and I loved your style. It reminded me of how some of the dieterian restriction from kosher cuisine may have happened as a way to avoid foods that did not keep well in the heat and could cause diseases in the ancient times.

Richard Wasserman - 2022-06-04

not true

ab bbb - 2021-07-10

Thank you for sharing this interesting research about allergies. Could you make a video about fibromyalgia?

Dimka Lie - 2021-07-11

My first video of you I watched and it's very well made . You have no reason to doubt yourself , considering how successful you are here . It's funny how the human mind tends to focus on the small negative things , instead of the much larger pool of positive things right in front of us . A survival behaviour that when you learn how it works , you also learn to ignore it . Stay positive ! Cheers !

IstasPumaNevada - 2021-07-13

It also doesn't help that the most toxic people are often worryingly obsessive, focusing amplified vitriol.

John Smith - 2021-07-17

This was enlightening and well presented, thank you!

Good work Real Science lady. As Scoops says below: "Remember that for every negative comment you get there was probably 100s of us who watched, enjoyed and simply didn't comment."

I like your open-mindedness to always be doing research. Regardless of what some "scientists" say - they're usually paid to tell us what our political and business masters want them to say; Science is never settled.

This is the second video of yours I have watched. The first being about hybrids. You mention polar bears could go extinct because of hybridization which I believe could be true (here in Canada we're now having problems with coy-wolves - crosses between coyotes and the Northern grey wolf) but know as well that updated research shows that polar bears are not going extinct but their populations around the world are growing, and in most cases, it's due to the ban on hunting them, even by aboriginals in our Northern areas across the globe. A video of 1 starving polar bear doesn't mean they're all starving or dying. It means that that ONE was and that could have been old age for all we know as the author of the video never explained the REAL REASON for the current state of the bear - it was ASSUMED - following a certain narrative that the bear was dying from climate change.

I'm looking forward to watching more of your presentations and would to love to hear the comment: "We once thought this, but with more research, we now know this..."

Even though it sounds like the most plausible hypothesis, I still don't fully buy the toxin hypothesis. Other toxins that provoke these expulsive symptoms don't require the immune system priming that we see with allergens: you will vomit the very first time you eat rancid meat, and your body doesn't need to store the information about the substances in the form of antibodies to be used later.

It also doesn't explain why most people do not develop food allergies at all. If it's really that important of a response that it necessitates potentially life-threatening measures--and is still selected for--why wouldn't it have higher penetrance within the population?

Like I said, still plausible, but we need a LOT more answers. Thank you for this review!

From the time I was very young, I was highly allergic to cats, and to some extent any animal with fur. We got a dog, and for the first few months I was pretty sick. I adapted a little, but on bad days if I was too close to him I could still have allergies. 30 years later, after having several dogs, I no longer had reactions to dogs, but still cats. Then I got a cat. Then my cat made friends. Now all cats pose me no threat if I pet them. On a very bad day, my eyes might get a little itchy. It seems to me that exposure to my allergen eventually made me accustomed. I still have miserable hay fever and allergies to certain sorts of wildflower pollen though. Can't win them all

I just can't imagine why you getting negative comments. Science is curiosity about how things work, and as humans we won't answers. It's an ever-changing map forms the way we conceive of our world, yet never quite solves everything. In my experience all I know is that constant exposure did cure me of some of my allergies, but intermittent allergens still give me a hell of a time. Also, my allergies completely disappeared while I was pregnant. Does anyone know about this?
