P- 37 “Bar Lock”

Air-Defense Search Radar in the States of the former Warsaw pact.

On top of the antenna you can see the Beacon, the antenna of the secondary radar unit “Siemens 1990”, a modification, which was introduced in the new german federal states after 1991. It replaced the old russian interrogation system (here: NRS 20).

During the relatively long use time of the P 37 in the NVA different versions were imported. These versions sufficed beginning with a trailer number 8 (This trailer mainly contained the MTI system based on vacuum tube technology.) until the so-called version '90 as the most modern station, this one transistorized and with integrated circuits fitted for the complete reception way (and so following: this version doesn't have a trailer number 8 urgently). These sufficient versions didn't get any different names, however, the difference were only obvious from the internal serial number and the number of radiators.

The stations should be checked for her further usability in 1990. A P 37 was requested and the DASA - Company should check the operating safety and calculate the effort to the retrofitting. By misunderstanding a randomize station was sent to this examination which was just available. Unfortunately this one was just the oldest version of the P 37 series.

On this way the almost twenty years older version was converted to new safety standards and equipped with a new one interrogator and the more modern versions were scrapped therefore. Cince 1998 the last P 37 were replaced by the RRP-117 in Mecklenburg/Western Pomerania.
