Type 992
The Type 992 is a high power, operating in S-Band naval radar providing rapid target indication for weapons. It can also be used as medium range air and surface warning radar. In the original version, a so-called "cheese antenna" was used, which was streamlined for high rotational speeds. The frequency band is covered by three interchangeable liquid cooled magnetrons.
The development began in 1948 and was completed in 1952.
The modernized version Type 992Q used solid-state technique (except the magnetron and its modulator) and a parametric amplifier. The modernized antenna is a 6.4 m - long linear slotted array enclosed in a cylindrical plastic radome. Its beamwidth is improved and is only 1.2 degrees.
