AN/MPG-1
The Radar Set AN/MPG-1 is an operating in X-Band mobile, medium range fire control radar set designed for use with seacoast artillery batteries. It provides exact present position data on targets within 28,000 yards. Depending on the tactical situation, AN/MPG-1 employs either continuous azimuth or sector azimuth scan for searching.
The AN/MPG-1 uses a high-power pulsed magnetron to generate the RF signals which are radiated into space. The antenna uses a so-called “Schwarzschild”- horn. This is an electrical scanner using four feedhorns mounted in curved parallel plates, and a waveguide switch (a so-called Organ-Pipe Scanner), rotated by a motor with 4 rps. The reflector is a half parabolic cylinder of 1 ft focal length, and is fed by the 11 feet by 1.4 inch linear aperture of the enclosed portion of the antenna to produce the beam 0.55° in azimuth by 3° in elevation.
The radar set AN/FPG-1 is a fixed version of the AN/MPG-1.
