MRK-1 “Shkval”
The MRK-1 “Shkval” (Russian designator: МРК-1, Метеорологический Радиотехнический Комплекс «Шквал» (индекс 1Б27) — “Шквал” = “squall”) is a weather radar for radiosonde observation. The antenna uses the principle of conical scan. The high frequency is fed to the antenna by using of matched rigid coaxial lines (see Figure 2). Although a transmission frequency is not published anywhere, the length of the lambda quarter stubs used to tune the coaxial lines suggests that the radar operates in the range of about 1 GHz (L-Band).
The radar was mounted on three trucks (one truck URAL-375 and two trucks GAZ-66). Small standardized radiosondes were used.
A stationary version, intended to complete the hydrometeorological service stations of Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia was developed on basis of this radar. This stationary variant was designated AVK-1 “Titan”.
