AN/SPN-43
AN/SPN-43 is an S-Band 2D ATC-radar used on carriers and amphibious-type ships. It provides air navigational data (azimuth and range information) for control and identification of aircraft from 50 miles to a minimum range of 250 yards at altitudes from radar horizon to 30,000 feet (9,144 m). Special indicators in the Carrier Air Traffic Control Center enable operators to direct aircraft along a predetermined azimuth to a point approximately one-quarter mile from touchdown.
The AN/SPN-43 utilizes a 120" × 80" reflector antenna with cosecant-squared pattern fed by a horn antenna. The polarisation is switchable linear horizontal or left-hand circular. It is a coherent on receive radar system with a pulsed magnetron transmitter. The bandwidth of the transmitted signal is 1.6 MHz.
The AN/SPN-43 will be replaced by SAABs AN/SPN-50(V)1 Shipboard Air Traffic Radar.
