AN/FPS-24

The AN/FPS-24 was an operating in VHF-Band long-range early warning radar. The radar used the frequency diversity technology to reduce the fluctuation loss of the echo signals. The radar used a linear frequency modulated intrapulse modulation with a pulse-compression rate of 18:1, it was a so-called “Chirp Radar”.

The rotating antenna reflector was 120 feet across and 50 feet high and its weight including all rotating parts was 77.6 metric tons.

Twelve systems were built between 1958 and 1962.
