Type 1022

The Type 1022 Radar is an L-Band air and surface surveillance radar used by the Royal Navy.

The Type 1022 is a long-range frequency synthesiser-driven Traveling-wave tube (TWT) radar with pulse-to-pulse coherence. It was developed as a replacement for the Royal Navy's Type 965 surveillance radar. Long-range performance is aided by the use of a high mean-power TWT in the transmitter. A pulse-compression receiver with Moving Target Indicator (MTI) provides for good performance in rain and in the presence of surface clutter.

The antenna uses a squintless feed to provide tapered illumination of the main reflector. This results in good sidelobe performance across the band. Other technical features include:

The Radar transmitter and receiver are the same as of the LW-08 „Jupiter” of the manufacturer Hollandse Signaalapparaten BV (SIGNAAL) Hengelo. GEC-Marconi buildt the antenna. A new automatic radar track extraction outfit is being supplied by Racal Radar Defence Systems.
