JY-8
The JY-8 is an operating in C-Band stacked-beam, mobile, 3-D radar. It has 11 independent receiving channels and can thus measure the altitude with an accuracy of 500 m. JY-8 can be used as air surveillance, target acquisition and interception control radar, either as a standalone system or as prime surveillance sensor within an automated tactical air defense system.
JY-8 is a coherent on receive radar and uses frequency diversity to increase detection probability and enhance Electronic Counter-CounterMeasures (ECCM) ability. The equipment uses advanced signal/data processor techniques such as Digital Moving Target Indicator (DMTI), automatic clutter map, and constant false alarm rate (CFAR). It is fully solid-state, with the exception of the magnetrons and thyratrons of the both transmitters.
The system is composed of four transportable units: an antenna/transceiver shelter trailer, an operations/reporting shelter truck, a maintenance shelter truck and a towing truck. The complete system can assembled or disassembled within one hour.
The JY-8A is a stripped down version of the JY-8 system. This radar uses only one transmitter and therefore cannot use frequency diversity. The maximum range is therefore dramatically reduced and the height accuracy is lower. Its stacked beam antenna forms 16 transmitting beams, and 12 independent receiving beams, to compensate the losses in accuracy. But this radar has a lighter construction and is more mobile.
