Flair or Master-S
The Master-S is an operating in S-Band medium range tactical 3D surveilance air defence radar and is specialized in the detection of very low flying targets. It was developed by Thomson CSF under the name TRS 2140 (Flair) and was supposed to replace the older radars of TRS 210x Series starting in 1993. Flair was the predecessor of the successful Master radar family. After renaming of Thomson CSF to Thales in December 2000, this radar got the new name Master-S.
The radar was used as a mobile, air-transportable gap filler, or for point and area defence. It can be integrated into a sensor network and can be remotely controlled. With its single 20-foot ISO package, Master-S can be transported any 10-ton class all-terrain truck. Time to deploy in an unprepared site does not exceed half an hour.
The antenna is an active phased array with distributed transmit/receive modules (one per row). The transmitters part is equipped with silicon bipolar junction transistors. The receivers part and the phase shifters use integrated circuits in Gallium arsenide (GaAs) technology. The waveform is intended for use digital pulse compression and multiple pulse duration.
